Not really a question, more of a complaint, I guess.

I've rented 3 rooms for 7 nights at a deluxe resort for a family stay. During the trip, a friend of my adult children is joining us and will be staying with them in their room for 4 of the nights. We just added him to the room today and got the nice surprise that we will get the extra person charge added for ALL nights. I don't quite understand the rationale for doing that. It certainly can't be hard to just charge him for the nights he is there.

I think the only option to get away from being charged an $210 on my bill is to book 2 different reservations, which is ridiculous. How did I not realize this?

Do you have a package booked, if so then everyone has to have the same components and you will have to pay for them the entire trip.

If not;
If the extra adult is joining you at the beginning of the trip you can let the CM at the front desk know when he/she leaves and they won't charge you for the last 3 nights.

If the extra adult is joining you during the trip just wait and add them after you check in for the appropriate number of nights.

My sister always joins us for portions of our trip so I have done both of the above scenarios without any issues.

Your best bet is to remove him from the reservation and then add him, for the nights he will be with you, to the reservation once you check in. It's how we always do it and it works great. When you add the extra person to the reservation before you arrive they will be added for the entire trip, as you found out.

Drop him from the reservation now before you arrive at the resort. Once he arrives at the resort just swing by the front desk and have him added to the room that he will be staying. Once he leaves just swing by the front desk and have him removed.

So, if I do this, I won't be able to get the Magic Band for him through the room, will I? I do have an old Magic Band laying around. I suppose I can't get fastpasses for him either, correct? At least not at the 60 day mark?

He'll be able to get one from the Front Desk when he arrives. His color choices may be limited, but he'll get one.

If he has a tickets attached to his MDE account then yes, you will be able to make fastpass reservations for him at 60 days.

Great, thank you. He will have tickets. For some reason I thought that if he was not a resort guest, he would not get the 60 days. He's also not had an MDE account. When he went with us before, he was managed by someone else but he was on the reservation the whole time and had a band ahead of time.

This is generally the best way to do it, according to a ton of research I've done (i.e. reading all the historical threads regarding this subject here. LOL). We'll be doing the same in December. Our daughter's boyfriend may be coming to spend a couple days with us during our trip. We'll just tell the front desk and get him "day guest" access.

My only concern with our situation is that there are already 4 of us in a room for 4. Hoping "day guest" status doesn't put us above our room limit.

If your room capacity is four, and you are four guests (no baby) already ... I don't see how they can add him to your room to stay overnight. Terminology of what they are calling the person, day guest, may be a bit fuzzy. Adding someone to your room makes them a full guest with full guest perks, and you would need to be within capacity.

Your reservation is a single entity. I honestly don't know of any hotelbthat does what Disney does - allow additional guests for only part of the reservation and charge appropriately.

If he is listed in your MDE and has valid tickets you can make FP+ for him at your 60 days as long as at least one of your party has the same FP+.

You can find more detail in the FP+ FAQ IIRC it is referred to as "umbrella".

Unfortunately, he won't be allowed to stay in your room. They're very strict about occupancy limits, and they don't make exceptions. Day guest status doesn't mean he's not on the reservation, or that he doesn't count as a room occupant. It just means he's there day-to-day.

This is bad advice. Breaking Disney rules is not something that that should be posted about. Posting about fire code violations is just generally a terrible idea.

The poster isn’t talking about breaking rules. He said that was going to tell the front desk that he had an additional guest.

If the boyfriend is sleeping in the room then yes getting him "Day guest" status would be breaking the rules as they'd be over occupancy at night - the implication of "Day guest" is that they are visiting during the day but sleeping elsewhere. Connecting that person to guests who ARE staying overnight can grant them access to the amenities of the hotel while they are visiting. But if they are sleeping 5 in a room that only allows 4, and not telling Disney that person is staying overnight, that would be breaking the rules.

Are you sure that "Day Guest" means no overnight or does it mean that they are staying "day to day?" I have a hard time believing that Disney's intention is to charge me $70 per day for a guest who comes to visit during the day and sleeps elsewhere. I take the term "day guest" in these scenarios posted above to mean that the guest is there on a day by day basis. I mean it's not as if we won't be paying.

As to the other poster who wants to put 5 in a room overnight in a 4 person hotel, they are only breaking the rules if they sneak. They had every intention of going to the front desk and making them aware of the situation. If the hotel allows it, they aren't breaking any rules. The bigger issue here is that this poster doesn't realize that you can't do this on a 4 person room, so may have gotten a nasty surprise when the extra guess showed up. Now they know they can't do this. No rules are being broken if they don't sneak or, if for some reason, Disney allows it.

I'm gathering my info from other threads. We would not be breaking any rules. We'd tell the front desk that we have a guest staying a couple nights with us. From what we've read, the front desk "usually" just puts them down as a day guest. In the case that doesn't happen, we wouldn't sneak anyone in. No rules broken. We'd just find another solution. That's just what a lot of responses have been regarding this situation, so we are hoping for the same.

Day guest means for the day. It is not day to day and sleeping in the room. I have no idea how Disney handles resort day guests.

No. Day guest is just that - someone who is there during the day (so possibly the resort guests might want to attempt to get permission from the lifeguards for that person to swim.) I mean, if you define "day guest" is someone who's there in a day to day basis, that describes every guest.
