Characters riding rides

I know at WDW, sometimes first thing in the morning (or randomly during the day) Alice will ride the teacups, Goofy will ride the barnstormer, etc.

Do the characters ever ride any rides at DL or DCA?

They used to. I haven't seen a character on a ride in a few years. I'm not sure if it's my (un)lucky timing or if they don't ride anymore.

We had Goofy ride the carousel with us, but that was back in '07. I haven't seen any lately.

Supposedly, there was some "order" handed down a few years ago. It didn't seem to be an absolute ban, but it's now very unusual to see characters on rides . For example, Mad Hatter and Alice (or even Peter Pan) haven't been seen on the Storybook boats for a long time.

I must be really unlucky, I've only seen it in commercials.

Closest we have personally gotten with that, is at Goofy's Kitchen (not a ride, I know), when oldest DS was still afraid of characters, he hid under a table when Goofy came by. Goofy got under the table with him, and sat down there with him until he came out.

In April 2009 we rode on Dumbo with Goofy and Donald. They almost invited DD3 to ride with one of them, bypassing a family in front of us with an older child. But once the mom figured out what was happening she spoke up and her child rode with one of the characters. 'Twas fine with me because DD would have cried anyway!

It's been a number of years but we have ridden the merry go round with Mary Poppins and Captain Hook. We rode one of the wagon things down Main Street with Aladdin, Jasmine and the Genie. The first two were part of the Discover the Magic Tour (we did a ton of character interactions on that tour), the last was just dumb luck.
