Planning for our May/June trip. I keep going back and forth about DS (5) wearing character shirts while we're at the park (cars, Olaf,Mickey and Eeyore.) I think it could be really cute if we did a M&G with related characters, but how distracting is it when looking at the pictures after your vacation if they are wearing say a Cars shirt while with Handy Manny or Jake? I'm sure I'm over thinking this, but he's at such a fun age for this trip so I foresee looking at these pictures often over the years. I'd appreciate any input. TIA!

You're overthinking it. Chances are that when you're looking at your pictures, you'll be looking at your child's face and the character. Not so much the clothes.

I have a photo of Buzz, with DS wearing a Buzz shirt that looks like Buzz's costume, and I think it is extra sweet. Framed it in a Toy Story themed frame.

I think the costume style shirts look cute, they are similar to seeing a child (or adult) in a Belle costume dress posed with Belle, for example. I have an Incredibles shirt for DS, Woody, etc.

We do not have these photos taken that often, nor does he wear these every trip, just here and there.

But, everyone does what they want at Disney! Have a blast no matter what you decide.

I agree that I don't think it's really all that distracting. In reality, you'll see lots of kids wearing a variety of shirts when meeting characters. Probably the only time it would stand out in photos is if you theme the shirts to match all of the characters except for a few. Then it might be noticeable in the few photos where the shirt didn't match the character. If in most photos the shirt and character don't match, then it won't stick out.

I went with a little one that wore her princess dresses or t-shirts all of the time, so we have pictures of her in a Rapunzel dress meeting Ariel, Tinkerbell, Mickey, Woody, etc. It's the look on her face that stands out the most, not what she was wearing. So I would let him wear whichever shirt(s) he wants regardless of the characters he's going to meet.

Also agree that your over thinking! It will be the memory of the meet and the face in the picture, not what they are wearing!

Have a magical time!
