Character Photos as a Solo?

Question for you all. I'm going to DW in Sept 2014 and I obviously have to have my moments with the characters! Are there CM's who will use your camera to take photos? I have a Nikon DSLR that I'm taking with me or at least that's the plan for now.

Either that, or what I've done bunches of times, and it always produces some fun moments is I whisper to the character, "I'd love to get my picture taken with you. Do you think someone would take our picture?" The character usually finds a CM he knows to take our picture. But what's happened several times is that the character takes the camera, approaches a guest and motions for him to come over and take our picture. People love it, they always laugh, and no one DARES say "No" to Goofy/Mickey or whoever the character is.

I've traveled solo several times and never have a problem getting pictures with the characters. There is almost always a "handler", but if not, the people behind me are very nice to take my picture, then I go get their camera and take one for them.

That is a great idea. I have always just looked for the cm that is with the character. I like the idea of them getting another guest to take the picture.

In my experience, there are almost always Photopass photographers at character meets!

I've used Photopass on my solo trips and been glad of it, but I will say on this year's trip I had at least a couple of CM handlers volunteer to take pics with my camera without my asking.

I think the vast majority of meet & greets where the characters are scheduled and stationed in their own "setting" have Photopass.

Good to hear. I pre-bought photopass plus a few weeks ago and also picked up a new 16mp digital camera the other day to replace my ancient 3.2mp. This is my first real vacation (longer than a weekend) in almost a decade so I'm hoping for a ton of pictures.

Not sure where you see characters, but I just about always end up with a photo pass photographer nearby. If not, they usually have a handler that will do it.

I don't go solo but I do go with my DBF and we've managed to get someone to take our pics with just about every character we've seen; only once did another guest have to help.

I'm a big character person and I have made 3-4 trips to disney solo.
Some characters don't have a photopass photographer with them.

I have never had a problem getting a pic taken either by the character handler, or the person behind me in line when there is no photopass photographer.

In one instance a character did what a previous poster said...grab some passerby to take the pic. It was cute.

Just ask nicely and you won't have any trouble getting pics taken.
