Character Performer auditions AFTER the program starts

Hey everyone! So I've been talking to a couple girls in my Jazzercise class who have done the program before and they were both character performers. One is really tall, like 6'1", so she was Tigger, Malificent, Goofy, etc. The other girl is shorter, like 5'5" and was actually hired for merchandise. When she got there though, she found out that they were having auditions for Character Performer, tried out, made it, and was switched to performer! She got to be Mr. Smee, Belle, Ariel, and Kim Possible. So my question is: Does this happen a lot? Like auditions while we're there? I know they must have auditions during the time we're in the program, but do they usually allow CPs to try out and change their role to character performer?

I really wanted to audition because I've danced and cheered for years, but the closest audition was waaay far. Plus I was kind of afraid that if I didn't make the audition, I wouldn't be accepted to the CP. =[ Thanks in advance for any information!

I've heard of these mysterious auditions in the past, do you know how long ago they did the program? I'm pretty sure it hasn't happened within the last couple of years... I know there were none in Fall 08.

Sorry I can't answer your question girl! BUT I have a question of my own that is some what similar and it might help too! Plus I think this is the best place for my question.

Ok so, if/when you choose to extend near the end of your current program, it is an option to apply to start a new role yes? I think I saw somewhere that they hold a character performer audition for those choosing to extend or join that role instead or whatever...
my question is, If you choose to extend, A) do you get to put a few options? Like 1,2,3 choice like in the interview? B) If you audition, (assuming one is available) and don't pass, will they place you into a 2,3 choice role if available (again like when first interviewing)? C) Do you get a chance to reject/accept the role they offer you (once again like in the begining when you were first accepted)

The reasoning for all this is, I think I would like to extend, and try for Character Performer, (my second choice would be back into FSFB) but if I didnt pass I would really have to think about extending since that would equal an entire year away from friends/family/work/etc...
obviously this could all change once I get there but I just want to know my options.

Any help would be much appreciated.

A) Yep - you get three options just like you said.
B) Yep!
C) Yep!

I'd say you've got a pretty good idea of the extension process!

They only hold auditions for a few reasons. Two of my roommates were character performers (they are still there, working full-time now). These are the reasons they told me..

-During Promotion Period (which happens every three months)
-During Hiring Period (Especially when they hire for CPs)
-When they are introducing new characters (when I was there, they were holding auditions for the Fairies and my friend, who was in QSFB, audition for Tinkerbell-she didn't make it though)
-Whenever people get terminated or quit
-And for special events, like new parades, parties, etc.

They allow CPs in other roles to audition. One of my friends, who was in Merchandise, audition and got the role of Pocahontas.

As far as I know, unless they've changed it or they have a special thing (like the fairies audition that was mentioned), it's a breach of contract to go to an audition while you're a CP, unless it's the one like a month before the program ends and you're trying to extend/FT/PT/seasonal into character. But I'm sure there have been special circumstances and stuff, but my friends that wanted to switch while I was down there were told that it wasn't allowed until extension time came along. Sorry! :(

As far as I know, Molly is correct. The only time you can audition when it's not an extension audition is at a face audition.

Ok, so I'm not sure about time limits and all that. However, my recruiter or presenter told me that the auditions down there are timed. So some will say you have to have been in the same role for 3 months before you can audition, others are open to only FT or CPs, some are at the end of your program, etc. Believe it or not, he said many people get turned away from those because they didn't read the fine print and hadn't been in their role long enough (which probably doesn't look so good to those hiring.....). so I can't comment on if you have to be at the end of your program, but that's what I know.
Have a Magical Day!!!
