This may be a silly question, but what are they like? I have only been to DW once, as a 13 year old, and I didn't meet any characters. (probably saw them, but all I really remember is the boy I had a crush on who was also their with our youth group haha!)
We are going next month and I have tons of character meals lined up for my girls, plus FP+ to meet A&E and Rapunzel and Cindy. (my oldest is princess crazy, my youngest just likes characters in general). So outside of the normal pictures and autographs, what can I expect? How long do they usually last at meet and greet locations (such as fairy tale hall) compared to the character meals. Any suggestions on conversations starters for my girls with them? I have a feeling they may freeze up meeting such famous stars! ;)

www.kennythepirate.com has suggested topics to talk about for every character.

Something I'd suggest as a conversation starter for shy kids is to let them wear a special accessory, shirt, or costume relating to their favorite character. Characters are great at picking up on this and it's a good way to start a conversation without the girls having to say anything.

(Just don't wear any Mickey apparel around Donald. Or do, if you want to see him quacking mad!)

My kids freeze up as well when meeting characters but love to do it. When we went in 2012 we bought them the Disney Jr. Encyclopedia of Animated Characters. The characters loved it (seeing themselves in the book), and it was a great conversation starter. Some of them even took the time to read the pages about themselves.

Character Meet & Greets are great. I have 71 different characters I've met (plus different Mickey, Goofy, Minnie & Donald's).

At character meals, the characters generally spend about 2 minutes at your table. We had one of the best interactions back in '05 with Minnie Mouse at Chef Mickey's....

If the characters are human characters, they will talk with you. Characters that don't talk will use hand gestures. Some will tell you how to pose. A lot of it depends on how your reaction to them is.
