Character meals?

This question has probably been asked before, but I can't find it right now....

Am I correct in assuming that some seatings for the character meals take place before official park opening? If this is the case, how does one get in to their meal when the gates are closed? Or are "off site" visitors limited to seatings after park opening?
I read somewhere that following your breakfast is a good time to wander around before the rides open, but not sure how that would work if the gates aren't open as well....

Can anyone elighten me? I am confused....

I actually just made our reservations for Plaza Inn for 3/3. Park opens at 10 and the first seating is at 9:30. I was told by the castmember there is one turnstile to go through that will be posted with a sign that says Minnie and Friends Plaza Inn......go through there and they will scan your ticket and you will be escorted to the restaurant. Hope that helps.

I HAD a PS for Ariel at 8:30 with a 10:00 DCA opening, and they called to re-schedule to 9:40, saying they were no longer going to open that early. So I think 1/2 hour before opening will be the new norm.
