We are traveling to Disneyworld in April 2015 with our then 8 year old daughter and our then 5 year old son. He is very excited about meeting all the Disney characters (we purchased the Basic Dining Plan) but unfortunately our daughter is over her princess stage (except for the Frozen ladies). Any suggestions of fun character meals for 8 year old girls who no longer adore princesses? Thank you!!!!!:wave2:

Garden grille in Epcot. Mickey, Pluto, chip and dale. We have had good character experiences and enjoyed the food. Have a great trip.

Crystal Palace at MK for Winnie the Pooh and friends. My 2 girls were never super crazy for princesses, but last trip we ate at Crystal Palace and Cinderella's Castle, and enjoyed both experiences.

As a 21 year old, I still really enjoy Crystal Palace as well as 1900 Park Fare. 1900 is great, because while they are British characters, there's still a variety with Pooh, Alice and Mad Hatter, Mary Poppins, etc.

Also were thinking of trying Ohana breakfast because I love LIlo and haven't seen her in years.

Tusker House is great as well, your daughter may enjoy seeing Mickey and company in safari gear, or Cape May where Minnie is in beach wear/bathing suit

I have 1900 Park Fare dinner and Akershus lunch adr's, my daughter will be 9 and while she is not a HUGE princess fan anymore, I know she'll still enjoy seeing them in person and I have heard the step sisters are also pretty great at PF. I also have Crystal Palace, and Chef Mickeys but the Chef Mickeys might fall by the wayside, we are huge Pooh fans so that one has to stay. :)

Wow! You are all so helpful and knowledgeable! I can't thank you enough for taking the time to give such thoughtful answers. Any other insider tips or words of wisdom would be most appreciated! We arrive on a Monday and leave on a Saturday (during spring break!). Our daughter will be 8 and our son is celebrating his 5th birthday while we're there! We're staying at Port Orleans and got the basic Dining Plan. Thank you all so much for your guidance!!!! :rotfl:

With an 8 year old girl and a 5 year old boy I would do Crystal Palace (Pooh, Tigger, Piglet, and Eeyore), Ohana (Lilo, Stitch, Pluto and Mickey), and either Tusker House or Cape May. If you are getting the regular dining plan then character meals are a good value since not only are you saving money on your kids food and giving them more food choices but you are saving tons of time in character lines and getting some great pictures!

With a 5 year old boy and an 8 year old daughter! I would do Chef Mickey's crystal palace and either Akersarus or 1900 Park Faire You may want to consider using two table service credits each and do CRT Cind"s Royal Table in Cinderellas castle My DD and son both enjoyed it.

My DD wasn't really into princesses when we went when she was 8 but she really surprised us on the trip and really enjoyed meeting them and getting their autographs. So that is why I recommend at least one Princess meal. The meal will be the fastest way to meet them all instead of standing in long lines

Crystal Palace in the MK, and breakfast at Cape May Cafe in the Beach Club would be my recommendations.

My dd just turned 9 this past week so she found out about the trip on her birthday and were able to tweak plans as per what she wants to do, we're taking her in January. She has not been infatuated with the princesses for a good amount of time now, but when I mentioned that I had booked a lunch at Akershus with the princesses before she knew she was going, but I could cancel if she would rather, she said that noooo she would love to go, and could she even put on a pretty dress too? :)

We also have booked CP, 1900 PF (dinner), Tusker House, and the BOG (dinner). Only one that has changed from my other post was I did drop Chef Mickeys. She said she didn't want to do that one. I was good with that. lol

Most girls grow out of the princess stage at home before they do at Disney. I'm convinced it's because none of the princesses are friends with each other outside of the parks! My daughter will be 9 by the time we go again, son 7. She may still be interested in BBB! I'm thinking the Cinderella dinner at 1900 park fare will be entertaining. For a special son thing, our then 5 year old LOVED Star Wars Jedi Training in DHS! Pirates League I've heard is super fun too!

My DD8 isn't a fan of princess meals because she is "no way" wearing a fancy dress on vacation! She likes the more contemporary princesses Rapunzel, Merida etc because they "do stuff, not just sing". We have done Chef Mickey and Cinderella Table. She liked it more than she thought. Her favorite meal is O'Hana breakfast, then Crystal Palace then Tusker House. She also loved the Hollywood and Vine Disney Junior and meeting Sophia and Doc McStuffins. Our next trip we are trying 1900.
Also we loved Hoody Doo Review. As for.other tips scour these boards, invaluable.

I vote on 1900 park fare as well... The dinner option has the stepsisters and stepmother and they are a hoot! Cinderella is still there, but the other three will put a smile on her face with their joking .
I would also suggest some dining with antics like whispering canyon cafe - that's fun for everyone! Also, raglan road is neat b/c there are the dancers on centre stage while you eat- and good food too.
Coral reef is cool b/c you feel like you are surrounded by the fish in a giant fish tank .... So many fun options -Have fun!
