For those of you that have celebrated your child's birthday at a character meal, did you pay for the treasure chest/cake for 15 bucks or did you just have the restaurant do the free cupcake?

Was the $15 treasure chest/cake worth it?

If you've done both, which did you think was better?

TIA!! :)

After shelling out for the character meal, we were perfectly ok with just having the free cupcake at the restaurant. It was a cute cupcake and didn't look exactly like anything that was out on the buffet line. A couple characters and servers came over and presented the cupcake and sang a birthday song to my son. After having spent the last hour at the buffet, my son was practically too full anyway to eat the cupcake but seemed to like the attention.

We did the cupcake (which there was a single serve 'princess' cake - similar to the one at Ikea) last year at Cinderella's Royal Table (at WDW). It was ok, very cute and my daughter felt very special (when the server brought it, we sang to her). The only problem was, my other daughter felt very slighted b/c she didn't get a cake, too! However, the meal already included dessert (so, my older daughter had a sundae with her meal and the adults got to choose from the dessert menu. I don't remember what mine was, but I do remember all the food being really good), so we wouldn't have wanted cake in addition to it. If we had been at a restaurant where we were ordering off the menu, the bigger cake may have been a good idea.

We did the treasure chest cake, but not at a character meal. We got it at the Plaza Inn, while we watched the fireworks after we ate our dinner. :) We had taken DD to her bday meal earlier in the day (she picked BB) so dinner was a more relaxed affair. :) The cake was not the best but it wasn't horrible, DD still has the chest and the "goodies" that came with it. lol She uses the little brush for doll hair. :) Anyway, we would do it again, we thought it was worth about $10 but at a theme park that means at least $15 right? LOL

It's a small plastic treasure chest, inside is a small frosted cake (white or choc iirc), you take the cake out, eat it and underneath are "prizes". They have one that's Princess themed and one that's Pirate themed.

any one got pic or link to talk bout this? I had the sourcery mickey hat bucket when we were there while ago guessing they changed it

We just got the free cupcake. My kids were too full to even eat that, so I'm glad we didn't splurge on the cake. We actually saw 2 other groups that had bought the cake. When they left they both left the cakes and they had barely been touched. It seemed like such a waste.

Yeah, I don't think we're going to bother with the cake. It just seems like more stuff to have to tote around. You guys are right, we'll probably be full after the meal & not even want to eat much afterwards. I'd hate to have to throw out a cake that cost that much. I figure we're already surprising her with the character meal & a makeover at the Bibbiti Bobbiti Boutique, so do we really need to pay for a mediocre cake on top of all that?!

Thanks for info!

The chest is not big at all....it was very easy to put in DDs backpack, which is a small backpack, big enough for trading pins, her autograph book and a wallet. The cake itself is just bigger than a cupcake, there was barely enough for the 4 of us to share it, we all had very small slices, you will see what I mean when you get to the parks, they will have them on display.
