Trying to get my ADR's just right. Which is better Tusker house or Chef Mickey?
For AK should we keep our Yak and Yeti dinner or change to Tusker house lunch for a character meal? If we do Tusker house it worth keeping our late lunch/early dinner at Chef Mickey a few days later?

I've never had good food at CM so I would go with TH. My favorite is actually cape may at the BC.

Denise in MI

We always hit Tusker House. Did Chef Mickey's one time and it never made the list again.

I can't speak on CM's (haven't done it since the 90s) but I do think TH has a much better atmosphere. The inside of the restaurant makes you really feel like you are in another country. We did the breakfast there and they had a ton of options - more than any of the other buffets we did.

Thanks for the advise everyone! So would you say that Tusker house would be a better option than Yak and Yeti?

I like yak and yeti better than Tusker House.... however Tusker House hands down wins against CM. So if I had to choose yest I'd drop CM and do Tusker House even if it ment loosin Yak and Yeti.

CM was ok the first time we were there. The last time is was HORRIBLE! Food was cold, service was nonexistent and the darn little birds flying all over the restaurant drove me insane. The characters were also very quick! Tusker House is much more relaxed with better service, better food, and better character interaction.

I don't think Tusker House has characters at lunch though.

FWIW, it was our last favorite meal of our last trip. Too noisy, felt too crowded and we barely saw the characters.

According to Disney's website Tusker House does have character lunch. I am thinking from the review here though that will probably keep my Yak & Yeti ADR.

I saw that re: lunch. Did they just add that this year?

Yes, its new this year. I cant remember when it starts though, I 'think' Dec.4????? someone pls correct me if im wrong thou.

I would definitely go with Tusker over CM. I was impressed with the food at CM. Poor quality and selection, and it wasnt even warm! Atmosphere isnt great either. The characters at CM is the only good thing about the place I think.

Tusker House has much better food selection/quality. The bonus (besides the characters) is that your that much closer to the safari ride if you time your ADR right.

We had breakfast at both Chef Mickey's and Tusker House on our last trip. Tusker House food was miles ahead and our reservation was at 9:40 so they'd been open for a bit. I wish I'd been hungier. 9:40 was the earliest I could get a reservation but we are early risers so we'd had a small snack.

We enjoyed the character interaction at both, but they do a march around the restaurant at Tusker House that the children participate in that dd really liked. There's just the switch off as far as the characters are concerned. Daisy is at Tusker House, but not Chef Mickey's. Pluto is at Chef Mickey's but not at Tusker House. Donald stays outside at Tusker House and the picture is a separate fee.

Tusker House is much calmer and the décor is wonderful. On our next trip, dd wants to do all the meals we did the last time again. And I can say that when I get up the morning of the 180 day mark, after the attempt to get the Ohana dinner (which we've never tried), Tusker House will be my next priority. Chef Mickey's will be somewhere down the list after Crystal Palace, Akershus, and Garden Grill and pretty much only made the list again because we'll be staying at Wilderness Lodge and can take a boat directly to the Contemporary.

Thanks everyone this was helpful. Well after showing dh the menu for Tusker house lunch he prefers to stick with Yak and Yeti for dinner on our AK day.

Well, AllEars says the 4th, but I have a lunch ADR for the 2nd and it says "Includes Characters". I sure hope that's right!

I would pick TH any day over CM. We found CM to be really noisy and found the food pretty cold.

This past May & August, characters meal at TH was only available at breakfast tho.
