character dinners and how to book?

I thought I read somewhere that you can do a character dinner somewhere.... I was thinking that seeing as the parks close at 6 when we are there early december that maybe I should book a character dinner for after that... but where are they?
We are staying at RPR....do they have them?

I was planning on calling the PBH today and try to find out what characters we might expect at the Friday night character meal they do.

I know that they weren't able to tell us much ahead of time who was going to be at The Kitchen character meal at the HRH when we were there in August. All they were allowed to tell us was "Universal Characters." Well, I wasn't expecting Mickey. They did say that we could book and then cancel once we found out who the characters were. (We were on a Scooby quest. We did see him a couple times as UO) The character meals there were 2x a week and get good reviews, but we ended up not being able to go. One night it was Scooby/ Shaggy and another night it was a couple of the Simpsons.

well, I won't waste my time calling them again then--I tried today, they transferred me to the PBH concierge, and it just kept going to voicemail.

RPR have characters at The Islands, used to be 3 times a week, but think its 2 times now.
Always been there in July , and never booked , always quite quiet at the restaurant, do not know why as the food and service is excellent. If you phone RPR they will put you through to the Islands, or they will have the info there, it was Mon -Wed & fri, but apparently they have dropped one of the evenings. We usually went and Scobby & Shaggy was there, just a note, they are not like Disney Character Meals- as the meal is the same price every day of the week wether there are characters or not.
The characters for different nights where
The Simpsons- Shaggy & Scobby- Shrek and Fiona.

How far in advance can you book character meals?

I'm used to Disney dining so not needing to call 6 months ahead of time is all new to me.

I called to book our character dinner for dec. 4th and they said that they can only book within 30 days for character dinners.....

Do the characters sign autographs or is it just a photo op?

can only comment on Scooby & shaggy at The Islands, I am sure they both signed, Shaggy did any way. The Place when we usually go in July is very quiet one of the times only 4 tables where being used and they spent abot 25 mins talking to us, well Shaggy did , as we know Dogs cannot talk
