Is it worth it to take a 10 year old boy to do the character dining? Is it more for little kids? The trip is a surprise for him so can't really ask ahead to see if it's something he'd be into. He's a very rambunctious boyish boy lol if that makes sense. If anyone has taken boys that age id love to hear how they liked it

We have only done one character meal and that was two years ago.. son was 8 and friends niece was 10, both enjoyed it. but not enough to go back and do it again...plus the cost of the meal wasnt worth it to us..

You would know if your son would like it or not... I would say if you have never done a character meal and can afford it.. go for it.. its fun they come round and inter act differently with the ages. and the kids... if you have a shy son and cant really afford it , then I would give it a miss..

If you can afford it, if your son likes characters I say go for it! I think all ages can have a great time at the character meals!

Have a magical time!

My three boys (the middle one is 10) love character meals and I don't think they will ever outgrow them. Our trip is a surprise too, so I have struggled deciding which meals but never IF we would do them.

When are you going? You might not need to book it in advance. You can always wait until you reveal the surprise to book it. Or book it later in the trip so you can cancel without penalty.

Hi thanks for the replies. We're going to be there the week of May 10-15. I should've specified it's my nephew not my son lol. He does like most of the Pixar movies like toy story & cars but is not into any princess movies or anything he deems girly. Obviously he knows who Mickey & friends are but he certainly hasn't really grown up with their cartoons. He's much more into superhero stuff. If we did do a character meal I'm not sure they'd have the type of characters he likes. Does any of the toy story cast make an appearance at them?

No Toy Story characters at the character meals. How about Stitch and crew at Surfs Up at the Paradise Pier? Stitch is usually a hit with boys.

When I took my 10 yr old son to DW for the 3rd time (ie he knew what it was about), he was all "no way" but once he saw his Mom and I interacting with the characters (mom especially. :) ), he got back into the spirit of things and had a great time.

I think it's all about the child. My son was "meh" about character meals at 9. By 10 he was completely over it and said "let's do counter service so we have more time for rides." I see nothing wrong with doing one just for the experience though. He may enjoy it!

My son is 11 and I never would've spent the $$ for a character meal at ten. He would much rather built a custom light saber at the Star Wars shop or something. I vote skip it. (And I agree, if they had one with Star Wars characters, or even Pixar, then yes!)

Mine is 9 going on 40. He didn't mind the character meals because it was a buffet and he could eat whatever he wanted. He didn't care a hoot about the characters though. What he really loved was riding Pirates and then eating at Blue Bayou IN the ride.

And if he's into superheroes I'd probably invest the time going to Innoventions to see Captain America and Thor first thing to avoid the waits later. Depending on what he gets for breakfast at home, he might enjoy the novelty of doing something like hot chocolate and a chocolate croissant for breakfast instead of a whole buffet experience with waffles and whatnot.

I didn't even know they had Avengers characters at DL! He'll definitely like that I think. This site is so helpful lol. This'll be his first & maybe only trip to DL & I'd hate for him to miss out on Mickey Mouse but really I think it's my own inner child not wanting to miss out. He probably won't care haha

Surf's Up, if you all want a character meal AND he'll eat enough to come close to the cost of his meal.
