Character dining. Storytellers or Surfs Up at PPH?

I have only ever dined at Goofys kitchen and really didn't enjoy the food much. Next time we go I'd like to go somewhere that has a good balance of tasty food (for my hubby this is an absolute must) and good character interaction.

Can anyone shed some light on these two restaurants? I'll have two children under the age of 5 with me.

I should add that we will be staying at The GC...

Well we haven't done breakfast at Storyteller's but we have done lunch and dinner and we very much enjoyed them! DBF likes the buffet for dinner, I like the chicken dish they have, very very good! I haven't eaten at Surfs Up! so I can say anything about them. :)

we did breakfast at Storytellers in January - it was very very good! Chip n' Dale were a riot as were the Bears from Brother Bear that were there. We also saw Rafiki waving a plastic fish at people and the critters from Song of the South. You can opt for a buffet which I can't comment on or order a set meal - I had the huevos racheros and my husband had an omelet - both were far superior to the fare at Goofy's kitchen!

We haven't done the character meal at Storyteller's, but the rest of our meals there have been great, so I'd give them a thumbs up for food. However, they usually have the woodland characters there (so I've heard) and I'm not sure how well little kids would know them.

We did Surfs Up this last trip and LOVED it. The food was great and the character interaction was amazing. We saw Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Pluto & Stitch.

I enjoyed Storytellers breakfast the characters were great and I liked being able to order off the menu instead of having the buffet. The stuffed French toast was really good.

I've never been to Surfs Up but we do have it scheduled for our upcoming trip.

Storytellers has better food, and you can order off the breakfast menu if you are not buffet people. However, characters at Surfs Up are the A List crowd.

Thanks guys.

Kinda leaning towards Storytellers since it's right at our hotel and the food is apparently so good. It might be kind of cool to hang out with the woodland characters. Where else would you see some of those rare ones?

I kind of figure the big ticket characters are in the parks anyways.

We did both of them this week and enjoyed them both very much. My kids loved the food at Surf's Up, but I enjoyed the food at GC more. The french toast was the best I have ever had. The characters at Surf's Up were some that we also saw in several other places this week, Mickey, Minnie, Stitch, Pluto, Max, and Daisy (although she never came to our table, even after being there for well over an hour and letting the server know.) The characters at GC were Chip and Dale, who are always fun, and some characters from Brother Bear. There was also a camp counselor type guy walking around cracking jokes with people. It was much quieter and far less crowded at GC. I don't think you can go wrong either way.

I highly recommend GC for better food options, but if characters are the main reason for dining definitely go with Surf's Up. Personally, we always make it a point to eat at one of the DGC restaurants whenever we visit. If you have time, I highly recommend Napa Rose!
