I think that certain restaurants/experiences still require a credit card to hold the reservation, they won't charge the card until you tell them to. I know that Akershus, Hoop Dee Doo, Backyard BBQ, and Cinderella's Royal Table will all want a credit card #.

Yes and no.....

Certain character meals such as mentioned by PP do require a CC.
All other character meals do not.

Now if you call to make those reservations the CM you speak with can do something that allows you to just "use" the dining credits but you have to call to do that.

If you do reservations online you have to use the CC.

I was able to book our CRT ressies online with my DDP credits at the 180 mark, I still had to give a CC# as a back up if we dont show but have to be logged in so it uses your dining plan.when I went to try to change the ressie however now that we are closer to our date it wasnt booking online that way anymore and wanted a cc# so just left the ressie the way it was

CRT, Hoop De Doo, Spirit of Aloha (the luau at the Poly), and Mickey's Backyard BBQ are all pre-paid events. When booking without an appropriate dining plan, they will be charged the full price at the time of booking.

Akershus and California grill are credit card guarantees. When booking, you will supply a CC number but NOT be charged unless you either don't show up or try to cancel too close to the meal (usually 48 hrs before the reservation). The fee for not showing up is nominal ($10-$15 per person).

When using an appropriate dining plan (that is to say, not QSDP), the prepaid meals switch to the CC Guarantee. You'll still have to input your CC number, but it *shouldn't* be charged unless you don't show up or cancel after the cutoff time. These will charge you FULL price if you don't show up, compared to CG and Akershus which will charge roughly the fees listed above.

As a note, even if part of your party shows up, these fees are typically charged to the card on file for each of the people who did not show up.

The online system has always been wonky when it comes to the prepaid on DDP events. Sometimes it works, others, no so much. If it's showing you a total amount of something other than $0 when you book online, you can either pay now and get refunded at dining time or call the dining line and book over the phone.

Most character meals do not require a credit card. Akershus requires one to hold the ADR regardless of how you book it, but CRT requires full credit card payment if you book it online...even if you're booked w/a pkg that has one of the dining plans. HOWEVER, if you call to book CRT and they can see you have one of the dining plans with TS credits, they will only use your credit card to hold the ADR - i.e. you won't be charged if you call.

Case in point, I had a CRT ADR booked by phone and the guy only took my creidt card info to hold the ressie. I decided to switch to dinner, but I didn't want the prime time slot I'd stalked to get disappear while I was calling, so I booked it online. My pkg confirm number is linked to everything on my profile/account, but YES- my credit card was still charged. When I called, I was informed that the system is not configured to have the dining side recognize the dining plan on the package side...even if it's all entered in there on your online profile. She said it's a fluke more than anything if you don't get charged when booking CRT online. In any event, the girl I got on the phone had to tag team the system with a coworker so that one cxld my newly booked prime spot while the other picked it right back up in my name so it could be changed to just a credit card guarantee. The amount was refunded to my card immediately (unlike room and pkg cxls which take 7-10 b-days).

Side note- the people on the phones like to take a credit card guarantee for pretty much everything. I've been asked for it for anything from things where it's required like CRT, Akershus, and Cali Grill to things like Brown Derby and Hollywood and Vine.
