Hi! I have a couple of character dining questions. This will be my daughter's first Disney trip, so I want to schedule a couple of character meals for our family. I THINK that she will love them...however, if we go to the first one and realize we've made a horrible mistake, is it horrible to cancel the rest of our reservations? I know you have 24 hours to do it without being charged, but is that horrible Disney etiquette? I'm also curious about the Akershus breakfast in Epcot. I think breakfast might be our best bet for my daughter, but I don't eat eggs - are there plenty of non-egg choices at breakfast? And do they serve the Mickey waffles or will we need to find another place to do Mickey waffles one morning? :) THANK YOU!!!

As long as you cancel before midnight the night before, you're fine. It's not bad etiquette at all, IMO. Not canceling would be.

Breakfast at Akershus has plenty. In addition to the platter they bring to the table there's a cold buffet with fruits and breads.

If she doesn't like the character interaction, you can still keep your ADRs. Trying a new restaurant for the food is just as fun. When the characters approach the table you can wave them on and they will quietly go to the next table.

Thanks! It could really go either way with her. She LOVES meeting characters (she's never seen a costumed character/mascot that we haven't HAD to stop and take a picture with) but she's really noise sensitive. I've read that a lot of the character meals can get loud. She might be ok...or she might completely freak out by the noise. Good to know that if the first one is a disaster we can cancel the rest.

I would avoid Chef Mickey's if she's noise sensitive. All of the meals are loud I find but at chef Mickey's the characters stop and loud music plays and everyone is encouraged to waive napkins around their heads. May not be such a great idea for your little one.

Character meals are way too expensive to sit through if your DD is unhappy. Try one and if she hates it absolutely don't feel bad about cancelling the others. People look for ADRs up until the day before and sometimes day of so if it's a hard to get restaurant they'll be thrilled that one opened up. I think you can get Mickey waffles at Akershus, but you have to request them.

I haven't had breakfast there, but I don't see waffles on the menu. They may be a special request. But it's going to be a more European style breakfast, with meats, fish, cheeses, and not cereals or pancakes. I suggest searching for reviews.

Someone I know just came back from Disney. This was their daughter's first trip and they thought she would love meeting the princesses. However, she ended up not liking the face characters (i.e. princesses) much but loved the full costumes ones. My kids on the other hand loved meeting all types of Disney characters. I think you will have to wait and see. There is definitely nothing wrong with cancelling reservations if you need to. Crystal Palace may be a good one to try. They have most of the characters from Winnie the Pooh there and the breakfast selection is good.

Akershus has plenty of options! We love it there because the cold buffet has so many great options to choose. The hot foods they bring to the table are very good, especially the potato casserole! We also had mickey waffles there - those aren't on the menu. We asked our server and he was happy to get a plate of the small ones for us and we had no allergies. We love mickey waffles, so this was great!

Garden Grill is a nice character meal on the quiet side. Especially if you're seated on the lower level, the booths are very private. It's in the land pavilion at Epcot and has chip and dale, Pluto and farmer Mickey.

My son is sensitive to noise and he's really never had issues at character meals though (just FYI). Probably because ther is so much other stuff going on too.

(Oh and my kid is another who is terrified of face characters but loves the big stuffed animal ones!).
