Character Dining Change!

As I learned in these boards, character dining is offered at the Universal hotels on a rotating schedule as follows:

Royal Pacifc - Mon/Tues
Hard Rock - Saturday
Portofino Bay - Fri

However, when I called (the main Universal dining line) to book dinner at the Hard Rock, the rep remembered in an e-mail that the restaurant would be closed and gave me the # to call the Hard Rock direct. It was confirmed that the Hard Rock restaurant (Sunset Grille) is closed for complete renovation and will be for quite some time. (It will reopen as The Kitchen.) So, the new schedule is:

Royal Pacifc - Mon, Tues, Sat
Portofino Bay - Fri

I wanted to inform everyone because the first rep I spoke with said the computers are still allowing them to book the Hard Rock restaurant even though it is closed! She tried to find the e-mail while I was waiting, but couldn't. So, luckily for me she remembered!

Thanks so much for the information! Since Sunset Grill is their main dining option aside from the pool bar and The Palm I guess many will have to eat elsewhere! We planned on 2 nights at HRH in December, I wonder if it will be done by then. I am looking forward to The Kitchen! Hope it compares to Sunset Grill when it first opened.

Aside from the character element, does this mean there is no breakfast offering at all at the Hard Rock at the moment? I know The Palm is only open for lunch and dinner. I'll be there in a week's time and I'm very disappointed to hear this news.

I was there today and.. the Grill is closed. They said it will open by December if not sooner.

Did you see my post "borderline obsessive". Well if you didn't I will catch you up. I am so addicted it's not funny. I was on business in the Universal area and drove by and just had to go in. So I picked my vouchers for our brand spanking new 2 year ap's and was so tempted to redeem mine and ride a few things....but I was in a business suit and the wrath of my wife would be too great if I did this without her so like a good husband I turned my back on the Hulk and decided to tour the HRH instead. Boy was I impressed. Can't wait to book it. I saw rooms and all!!!! The staff was friendly, knowledgable and eager to help....but they are cool.... When I got there, the front desk clerk said "What's up dude? What can I do you for???" weird, but went well with the theming.

I am impressed! Tell your wife..she done good My husband would have come back with his head hung low telling me how he was pushed on the ride and had no choice!

Last year my Grandfather took ill and I had to fly to Orlando and drive to Daytona to be there. I went with my sister and as I walked out the door grabbed my AP. (cause ya never know if the opportunity may present itself ) My husband said leave that home you wont be needing that! I of course said your right dear and took it anyway.How could I possible be in the same town as USO with an AP and not figure a way to walk through the gate? That would be like waving a bone in front of a dog and saying nope you cant have that! My family aside from my sister (the one that went with me) doesnt get my theme park illness. My parents met us in Daytona and my mom had to get back home so I offered to schlep ALL the way to MCO airport and drop her off. My dad kept saying lets just get her a town car, you have 2 hours of driving its silly. I insisted the sweet daughter that I am that I would do this for my mother. I grabbed my sister and drove mom to the airport. As we left to head back to Daytona my sister said you arent going back are you? I said yes sure I am after we make a detour! My Grandma and Dad made dinner and were holding it for us.... I called my dad from the USO parking lot and said I got lost! He said where are you? I said just entering IOA! He was NOT happy and I felt like I was 10 again being reprimanded for doing something wrong! I said just eat we'll eat something here! My sister now is chanting were gonna get in trouble lets go back now! I said were already in trouble so whats the difference were here lets have some fun. Of course by this time my cell phone rings and its my husband..."honey where are you?" Ummmm well...would you believe I got lost driving back to Daytona but thank goodness I am safe at IOA. He said yeah I know where you are your dad just called and told me! How old am I??? My dad was telling on me to my husband? In the end hubby said to enjoy (I knew he would) and we did, even if it was for a very short while!

So, I understand this obsession but I must commend you for being stronger than I.

Now tell me...where am I supposed to eat breakfast at the HRH if I stay in December? Dinner? The beach/cafe-bar closes early and they dont have breakfast...gonna have to call and ask that tomorrow. Thanks for the heads up on the hotel I am hoping to stay and enjoy it mucho!
