I think the way you feel about Disney as an older kid & an adult has everything to do with your childhood experiences with it. KWIM?![]()
Not everything.
DH and I had weird experiences with DL growing up, with very difficult fathers who seemed to enjoy ruining the good time of their children. while DH believed in characters and Santa, I did not (my skittish personality and home strife made Santa impossible since I saw it as a man breaking into houses while we slept), and I actually was truly scared of characters as well.
Basically we never had truly GOOD trips as children, and when we met we had NO idea that we would become frequent visitors.
With DS we haven't done the Santa myth ( not having grown up with it, I can't see that it is anything but a temporary lie for absolutely no good reason and cannot do it) and have never told him that characters are "real", and he has gone back and forth on what he believes. But despite that he LOVES meeting them, even when he is in a "noticing the zippers in costumes" mode.
So I'm just not sure that it's based solely on experiences, and quite a bit on personality.
We've never done a pretrip character call, but DS gets Mickey (or stitch at WDW) wake up calls every morning while onsite at Disney, and still enjoys them.
