Character Breakfast disappointment

LOL! Maybe, Maria, as we were at table 63! (but we weren't the photo shoot family *grin*)

I figured that either way I had to eat breakfast, so to have the characters there was just a bonus, and I didn't want to skip it. :)

Wow, our breakfast with the characters was great. We got pictures of my daughter with each one and got autographs from each one too. In fact Minnie came by two times and wrote a cute little note to my daughter in her autograph book.

Well, I feel much better that others on the same cruise, same breakfast seating had the same impression that I had. Thanks, gang!

And, I totally agree about the photographer "over-posing" people. We stopped for a "quick" picture of my daughter dressed up for her birthday, and it took over 20 minutes (2 people ahead of us in line). We ended up not going to one of the comedy shows after she took so long.

However, I still wake up each night dreaming about the cruise. After 10 times, that's not bad. I think my favorite part might have been the self-cleaning bathrooms and self-emptying trash cans (hee hee). And the lack of "mommy" duties......

We were on the Magic in October and have to say the CB was probably one of the few things we were NOT disapointed with on the cruise!
We took our grown up kids, who each took a friend and had a blast that morning. We were all impressed at how much more time the characters stayed at the tables onboard the ship vs. the WDW restaurants. The "helpers" with each character were more than accomodating when asked to shoot some pics with our cameras, and we had several. Got loads of great shots from our camera, and left a good chunk of change at Shutters :)

The rest of the cruise sadly was only on par with what we expect from Disney, good service, but nothing to exceed our expectations. Quite a difference from our first cruise with them.

MJ, that woman in the atrium drove us crazy. We were only back about 4 or 5 families and right when it was our turn they opened up Lumiere's for the 8:30 seating. So we had to wait another 10 minutes for all the people to clear out so she could take the picture! She tried to do the multiple poses and my mother (less than politely for my standards :o ) told her no way because she had already made us late for dinner. I'm thinking maybe it was a new crop of photographers because they were definetely the cause of the "rushed" feeling in the CB.

nicurnc . . . Were you on the Magic Oct 11, 2004? I ask because I was generally dissappointed with that cruise. And, my other cruise was FANTASTIC. The October cruise was the first out of dry-dock and I thought there were plenty of service related issues.

Just wondering.... That was not my best time, but I'm still going for another. Can't wait.

SandraLee,
We were on the 10/18/04. We enjoyed ourselves ( We don't let too much get in the way of having a good time :) ) but there just wasn't anything that made us feel like being on DCL was better than another cruise line. I always have felt anything Disney was worth the extra money, but after a week at the AKL, followed by the cruise, I really started to wonder. I think Disney is getting very ricey for the average family to enjoy. Certainly not what Uncle Walt had in mind when he conceived the idea for Disneyland!
So we weren't moved enough on the cruise to book another. We won't say never, Possibly with my sister and her kids once they're a bit older. (Palo and CC are definitely in a league of their own, we might do a 3 day just to do them again!)
As I said before, our kids are grown, so there is no incentive there. We also found there to be WAY too many kids unsupervised and poorly mannered (Many with parents to match). Our first DCL trip, we hardly noticed there were kids on board. This time kids were eveywhere. Fine if you came with little kids, but DCL appealed to us because they made such a point of having adult-only areas, and enforced that (Not so on other cruise lines) This last time, dinners, shows, pool areas, all loud with kids. Love 'em, but I've raised mine and would prefer not to trip over them on vacation, so I think we'll stick to lines that just have less kids on board (at least until we have grandkids to spoil ;) )
I recommend DCL to all the young moms I work with, For families with young kids, I think DCL is really the only way to go. ( Saw a pcture of a co-worker's kid hugging the mascot on a Carnival cruise, that was just sad)
