What if - We are a party of 6 with grandparents. Grandparents want to attend the Character breakfast and dinners we planned but may not want to eat a $30 breakfast, can they attend and sit with our party and not be charged? We have already made the reservations for 6 - also, if the GP do not want to eat and there is a charge do we have to re-make our reservations for 4 instead of 6 or not?

Grandparents must pay too and you need to keep your reservation for 6 people. You are paying for the food and a seat for the character entertainment. No way around it.

If cost is the concern, consider getting the dining plan if you are staying on Disney Property... for us, it saved a lot of money. Well worth staying on Disney property. Disney is an expensive vacation... we just accept that and enjoy it.

Almost all of the character meals are buffet or family style... exception - Akershus and Cinderella's Royal Table... And it's one price for the food and "entertainment". There is no separate a la carte ordering that Grandparents could do and still sit with you.

No, the grandparents can't come to the character meals without being charged for the meal. This is the case with all character meals.

If the grandparents are going to be at the table they need to be on the ADR. However, if they're at the table they'll be charged whether they eat or not.

If you decide to go without the grandparents, you can call WDW-DINE and ask about removing two guests from your reservation. There's conflict over whether or not they can do that without changing your reservation. Some CMs apparently will and some won't. If you are subject to the no-show fee you will probably want to remove them from the reservation if you know they don't want to come.

I was able to do this recently, changing a reservation from 4 people to 3. I'd encourage grandparents to go. It can be a lot of fun. If breakfast seems like a waste of money (I'm not usually a big breakfast eater), try the character lunches or dinners.

If you're all new to character meals.... at first, I thought these were just for children. But we (adults) have had some great fun at character meals. My DS6's grandparents thought it was a little corny but they learned to have some fun with the characters too. It's easy to provoke many of the characters into some funny interactions by saying things to them. I've seen my wife laugh just as hysterically at the characters as our young son.

At Crystal Palace, we have kidded Pooh about eating too much of the buffet and complained that we can't find any honey...... asked Tigger if he was jumping all the time because he had too much coffee....at Garden Grill, asked Pluto if he wanted some of our food instead of the lousy dog food he gets..... thanked farmer Mickey for growing the delicious vegetables.... at Ohana, Mickey taught our son the shaka surfer sign.... silly stuff like that....
