We're going to be at POR on Chanukah. :woohoo:

Does anyone know if there is a policy on lighting chanukah candles (or candles in general) at Disney resorts? :confused3

If there isn't any policy, does anyone know if lighting candles would set off fire/smoke alarms/sprinkler systems?

Thanks!

I think I would bring an electric one and just turn the bulb each night. I know this is not as special as lighting a candle but I think much safer.

Make sure to check out the Hanukkah storyteller in America in Epcot.

If you have a balcony, maybe light it out there? Could be pretty nice with low lighting in the room looking out at it (as long as it's secured so the wind doesn't blow it over). ((Oh, wait, sorry. I just noticed that you'll be at POR and won't have a private balcony)).

But a Hanukkah storyteller in EPCOT? Never even heard of it. I'm not Jewish, but I'd love to go see. One of the things that makes Disney so cool... no matter how much you thought you knew, there are always neat things to discover!

Thats a good question! I have no idea about the answer though.....I would try calling POR directly.

As far as I know, anything with a flame is prohibited in resort rooms.

But we saw the Hanukah storyteller in Epcot last year - she was excellent! She was inside the American pavilion.

Here's a few photos I took:

Here is the info from stevesoars site.

Hanukkah Storyteller:
Let the Hanukkah storyteller take you back, as you hear the story behind the rich Jewish traditions of Hanukkah. You'll hear about the miracle of the lamp that burned for eight days, and the story of the brave Maccabees, who defeated a mighty empire and won the right to worship in their own way.

Length of show: 15 minutes

There is also a Kwanzaa Storyteller:
Come hear about the wonderful celebration of Kwanzaa. This truly unique African-American holiday commemorates not only the harvest, but also traditional African values and unity of the family. Our Storyteller brings to light the rich heritage this cultural and spiritual celebration represents and highlights the seven principles of Kwanzaa.

Length of show: 15 minutes

A few years ago they were both outside the American Adventure building but for the past few years we have seen them inside. We stayed for both storytellers.

I use candles all the time when I am at hotels, just use your common sense and make sure it is out when you leave the room.

I thought I read on the DIS a while back where some guest asked the hotel management about using candles in the room and they told the guest to not use candles in the room.

I usually travel with a scented jar candle and have not had a problem with lighting that.

I think we'll be going with the electric lights, and dance around those :dance3:

Thanks for the info on the Chanukah storyteller. I didn't know about that! :thumbsup2

Now, if only someone here knows of a place at WDW that has good potato pancakes and jelly donuts. :rolleyes1
