Changing Your Name

I realize this isn't Disney-specific, but I trust my fellow Disney brides!

In terms of the name change process, did any of you use one of those kits? Would you recommend them? Or did you just do each item on its own? (ie. license, credit cards, ss card...)

I used miss now mrs . com and I think it was a waste of money. I only used it for my ssn and driver's license. I think I spend more time filling out all the questions than I would have just filling out the form myself. I would save the $30 and just do it yourself.

I did everything myself. Not in a timely manner, but that's just me. I actually still haven't changed my name on my 403(b) account...oops (wedding was Aug '11). The only annoying change was social security (because I had to visit the office and the wait was ridiculous.)

Save your money and do it yourself. Most are easy, just SS is a pain with going to the office

Thank you guys, I really appreciate it. I downloaded the SS form the other day and am starting the process myself, lol. Need to save money in every which way possible, since we just spent most of it on the wedding, haha!

I did it myself like 2 years after we got married, lol. I went to social security first thing in the morning then the DMV (made an appt) the next afternoon. It was easy, just showed my marriage license at the SS office, and then the letter I got at the SS office and my marriage license to the DMV the next day. The systems for name chages are apparently linked from the SS officed and DMV (it takes like 24 hours to roll over the changes) and they'll see your name change in there. I don't know if that's like that only in FL but If it's happening here I'm sure it's happening in other places.

Easy and quick! The worst part was calling all my credit cards and especially my Amex to change my name. Hassle!

I did it myself with my 1st marriage. I plan to do it myself this time too...only this time I will probably do it asap since I still have my ex's last name and can't wait to change that!

I'm a DOOF!!! I went to SS and forgot the marriage license, lol!!! I went back home, grabbed it, and my new SS card is on the way. DMV on Monday. Then allll the other things...

It's hard b/c I'm also a professional actor, so I'll still be using my maiden name as my "stage name", so trying to keep that straight as well!

I did this exact same thing. Luckily I got a great discount on the package at a bridal show, but I never used it. I looked through it and it did help to remind me to change my name on some of my rewards cards that I have, but don't always carry on me!
