Changing your mind about paying oop or with ddp credits after your meal?

We are on the normal ddp in october, and are doing more meals than we have credits for :)(some are 2ts restaurants). So my question is if as we go along we pay oop for some meals and then credits for others, but nearer the end of our holiday find we have more credits left than we might need to use, can the hotel reception credit those ddp credits to our previous oop meals and get the money refunded?

I am trying my best to work out where to pay oop and where to use the credits, but with our 7 year old being up'd to an adult on the ddp we are working out when to pay oop for her (when she'l just want a kids meal etc) and when to use her credits etc, and when the three kids might share two meals (as our youngest isnt on the plan). Its so confusing...

Also at cinderellas royal table will they make her get a adult meal? Or if we pay oop for her can she just get the childs meal and we pay for it. She isn't overly interested in the adult menu there. Plus she'll want the free toy her sister will get.

On my disney app it still states her as a 7 year old if that makes any difference, as do all the adrs on there. (Her ticket states 10 and older).

Don't want to cheat the system or anything but also want to make sure I use our credits wisely, as we will be paying oop as well.

Thanks :thumbsup2

No, they cannot.

Why are you paying for adult dining plan for a 7-year-old?

No, but they'll have her pay with 2 adult credits for the children's meal.

Why are you paying adult rates for a 7-year-old?

I think it's a glitch on MDE. Several were saying a week or so ago that their children were showing up as adults on the ticket portion of MDE. I would bet that the DDP for the op has their daughter listed as a child.

At some restaurants my daughter prefers more adventurous (so didnt spell that right :)) meals, so rather than just being able to order the kids meals we have upgraded her to an adult on the plan. That way she can have an adult meal on a credit if she wants one, or a childs meal oop if that is what she would prefer that day. Basically she can pick and choose what she wants. I know at buffets and aycte meals she will use a adult credit no matter what she eats, but at other restaurants we like that she can choose.

At CRT if she is ordering a childs meal and we are paying oop, shouldn't it be charged as a childs meal (as it's not a buffet or aycte)? If not no worries and I'll allocate to using two of her credits there but assumed as it was a childs portion we would order and pay for oop that is what they would charge us.

Thanks:)

I believe you can pay OOP for her at CRT and she can get the child's meal, but that is an expensive OOP even at kid's prices.

You need to look at all your ADRs and try to decide NOW where she will use credits and where she will get a kid's meal and pay OOP. You can't fix and rearrange things with guest services toward the end of your trip, and you don't want to get to the last day or two and have a bunch of extra credits to use.

And evaluate if paying for adult tickets and DDP is really worth it. Keep in mind that at QS, she can order anything she wants -- there are no kid/adult meal restrictions with a QS credit. If you are doing multiple character meals/buffets and only one or two TS with menus, the odds are really high that you will save more money buying one or two "adult" TS meals for her OOP, and paying child pricing for DDP and tickets.

Anyone can eat anything off a buffet.

Last year when I costed the difference out, it was about $20 to upgrade one of the kids. WE ended up not doing that and just upgrading to DxDDP, but depending on the number of days you purchase tickets for, the cost can be minimal.

Believe me, the difference between kids meal and an adult selection at CRT is lightyears! But you are right, you really need to get your orders straight before you use your credits or pay OOP> Guest Services will not just swap everything around and refund money because we did not plan ahead.

This is true if you've booked a "free dining" promotion. Nobody said that's what's been booked, and it makes a huge difference. The cost to upgrade on the regular plan would be about $45 PER NIGHT.

You are right. I have free dining on my mind! Thanks for pointing that out, it could be an expensive decision.

Thanks, yes we do have free dining so it is only the cost difference of a child to adult ticket, and for that she gets 16 nights worth. So I think its worth the upgrade.
I will just need to make sure I plan it all, and let her decide where she wants adult meals or Childs. It will just be nice that she can choose what she wants.
Thank you everyone for all your help and advice .

All things Disney depend on the day and the cast member. I would not assume it can be done but I did it in 2011. I had planned to pay OOP for a breakfast buffet but forgot and used our plan credits. That night at the most expensive meal of the trip we had no credits left. Cost me $$$$. The waitress actually suggested I go to our concierge and see if they could correct it. I told the concierge what happened, explained it was totally my fault, and he said no problem. Saved us about $150. But, that was in 2011.

Also, we upgrade our son to adult because he is not a fan of the table service kid menus. Don't forget you will have to tip on that adult price. Adult meals are often $20+ more than kids. That's an extra $4 tip each meal. 16 meals will run over $60 extra in tips.

Can't you decide at the time who will use dining credits and who will pay cash? It shouldn't matter if it is adults or children that you pay OOP for.

This is actually a smart idea, especially for free dining. If I upgrade my youngest grandmunchkin and buy him kid meals when he wants them, we could potentially have 7 additional TS credits, which would mean we could do 2 additional TS meals, for the rest of us, or an additional signature meal, while paying OOP for kids meals once or twice.
