We are thinking of going as soon as the kids get out of school this year which is 5/29 and staying for 10 days. Is that when most schools get out? Will we be miserable? We usually go in January or November. Went once in September and it was brutally hot. Any thoughts?

As a general rule, we try not to book anything right up against the last day of school, and instead take our first summer vacation no sooner than a week after that. That way, if the school year gets extended (too many weather days, etc.) we don't have to worry about rescheduling. Our kids are in high school, though, so those last few days are final exams.

We aren't worried about adding extra days because if weather. Our district already planned ahead with extra "teacher" days.

Schools in our area don't get out up until mid to late June and I'm sure there are others that do the same. A I would think early June is better than late, but not as low a crowds as January

That's exactly what we did this past year and it was perfect. The weather was beautiful and the crowds were very manageable - we didn't wait more than 20 minutes for anything.

Also, it's a great time to visit the waterparks. There were less than 50 people waiting at rope drop.

I have been the last two years the first week of June with groups (I'm a group tour director). I'm going back this year again.

Crowds weren't bad, but especially two years ago, it was already brutally hot, and very muggy, with thunderstorms every afternoon. The storms are typical June weather in central Florida.

It was brutally hot? We don't do brutally hot well

Then you should re-think your time frame. The temps there get extremely hot and humid by the end of May. We were there the week of May 8th a couple years back, and it was in the mid-90s the entire week, with a blistering sun. Not fun!

Thanks for the info. Looks like we'll be waiting and taking the kids out of school in the fall

I think end of may would be a great time to go. Most northern schools don't get out until the end of June. I would think weather would be hot, but crowds manageable. If you want to wait until the weather cools down a bit, I would shoot for Nov, it is a lovely month in FL. Weather is great, crowds are low, as long as you avoid Thanksgiving. The week prior to Thanksgiving is great.

Yup, think mid-90s with very high humidity. Yes, it is often broken up by a thunderstorm in the afternoon, as I mentioned, but it's muggy again after the storm.

We taking our niece this trip and it's a surprise. Her birthday is 10/21 so I think we may go then.

We have been once in October and twice in November. During October, it was very hot and extremely humid. I'm talking we would come back from the parks dripping and soaked! It was also hurricane season and we had the unfortunate experience of them closing the parks our last day due to a hurricane. When they did open later in the day, there was no monorail due to the winds and a lot of rides were closed. Oh, and while they did still have the MNSSHP parade the night before the closure, the headless horseman did not ride due to the rain/stormy conditions. November was much nicer in terms of weather. Still humid, but mild temps. Quite nice actually.

The hottest time of the year in Florida, in my opinion as a Florida resident, is mid-June thru mid-September. Early June is hot, but I find mornings and evenings tolerable. You will also have smaller crowds in early June, but it will definitely be more crowded than what you are used to in January and November.

We are also from Ohio. Our schools get out right at the start of June. We have gone as early as June 17. It is hot, yes, but better than July or August--in August even the pools were like bath water. Our strategy is to go at rope drop and take a break mid-day, usually going back to the parks in the evening. Just know you might be kicked out of the pool during your midday swim for storms.
Our best time crowd wise was in October, but since I teach we only did that once. Worst was over NYE. We have been several times over spring break. Just have a strategy and any time of year can work for you.
