Changing trains at Lille? Be warned!

Just wanted to give people a heads up, as i'm not sure how often this happens...

We came back from DLP yesterday with a change of train in Lille (the direct service was too late for us). Just a few minutes outside of Lille, there was an announcement in French and from what I could understand of it, it was saying that as an excpetion the train would go to Lille Flandres station, not Lille Europe as planned.

Upshot was we had to walk the 500m - on balance it's not the end of the world as that's only about as long as a Eurostar train and the sun was out in Lille, but still was an unwelcome extra, especially when laden with suitcases, children etc...

Sorry to hear about this. Hopefully it is not a regular occurance.

Thanks for the information. We'll be doing this southbound in little under two months and I hope we don't have a similar problem. We do have about an hour for the connection though, so that should be plenty of time.

Mike,

It's probably rare, but i'd just be a bit cautious if for whatever reason your train isn't up on the board. Also, the staff in the ticket office speak some English, so if you have any concerns you can always drop in there to ask. As I said it's only a five minute walk between stations, but a pain all the same!
