Changing to a smaller party size

We are going to book our ADRs this week. My dilemma is that we aren't 100% sure at this point if my parents will be able to go with us or not this trip. Should I make the ADR for all of us and then reduce it later if we have to? Has anyone had problems with changing to a smaller party size as long as you do it before you arrive? Or will it possibly change whether you can get a table just as going bigger can? Thanks!:)

Make your ADR's for the largest party size.

You can show up for any ADR with fewer people, but it can be difficult or impossible to change your ADR for more people.

OP, you definitely need to make the reservation for the larger size, but you also need to be sure to cancel the extra people at least 24 hours ahead of time and not just show up at the restaurant without them. This is especially true if you are dining at a credit card held reservation. The no show fee is $10 per person.

Thanks! I figured it would be better to err on the side of a bigger party size. We will know in a few months whether they will be joining us or not. So I will definitely change the party size before we go!
