Changing ticket dates for tickets from UT (or other resellers)

Just an FYI. I had to change the dates on some tickets purchased from UT. I went on the Disney website and picked "Change dates." It looked like I'd be able to change the dates on the website - there was even a generic message that popped up saying, "If you bought your ticket from a travel agent, travel wholesaler or other non-Disney travel seller and you exchange or modify your ticket on this website, you may not be able to exchange, modify or conduct any other transactions with your ticket with your travel seller. Contact your travel seller for further details." I put in my payment information, but kept getting an error message.

I called Disney and learned that, for tickets bought from resellers, you have to go back to the reseller to change ticket dates. I called UT to change the dates. They have to do it all manually through Disney, so it'll be up to a week before the change is made. I'll be getting all new ticket numbers that I have to re-link in MDE. If I don't link the new tickets within 24 hours of getting them, there's a chance all of my FPs could be cancelled (because MDE will think I don't have valid tickets) (one ticket that I changed just had to be shifted back one day, so it already had FPs attached for most of the trip dates). Also, the price difference for the date change ended up being more than I expected; I'm pretty sure I lost at least some of the savings from booking with UT from the beginning. I had spent so much time on the phone and website at that point that I just let it go.

The woman from UT said that Disney was supposed to allow tickets from ticket resellers to be changed on MDE, but that didn't happen. In short, unless you are 100% positive of your dates, buying and changing ticket dates through a reseller can be a huge hassle!

Bummer, we always get our tix from UT. Thanks for the info on changing dates. It costs more to get tix that don't tie to a specific date but I was wondering what happens with tix if you have to change. I'm not liking this new ticketing system at all.

I just changed a ticket using the iPhone app yesterday. I had purchased it from UT earlier this month. It worked fine, and it took about 2 minutes. Maybe the website works differently, but I can attest that you can change third-party tickets using the app.

I purchased a ticket from UT for my 19 year old daughter who said she wanted to go with me to Disney. Of course now that I have linked it to her, it is saying it's non transferrable and she no longer wants to go. It was never used.

Not sure what I will need to move it to my husband who is now saying he wants to go. It's frustrating and I doubt I will buy 3rd party tickets anymore.

If it’s anything like a hard ticketed event (parties/DAH) you should be able to transfer it up until just before your trip. I think it’s the day of for hard ticket events. They just aren’t transferable once activated or partially used.

Do you control your daughters profile in MDE? If she has her own, she has to do the transferring. My DD had a ticket that I was going to use. Even though our accounts are linked in friends & family, she had to transfer it to me. Whereas I control my DGS’s account and I can move his ticket myself. His ticket is from a 3rd party so I don’t think that is causing your problem.

My friend bought tickets through boardwalk ticketing and had to update them becaus her dates moved from November 2018 to March 2019. The tickets “expired” Dec 31, 2018, and they were purchased before the new dated tickets went into effect. She called boardwalk ticketing and had them changed in a couple minutes. She had 8 tickets that were about $20 apiece cheaper than what Disney was selling them for. Certainly a 5 minute phone call is worth $160. We’ll still be buying and recommending third party ticket sellers to our friends!

We purchased tickets through UT. When we finalized our plans in early January I wanted to adjust our tickets slightly. I was able to do it all myself online and pay the small fee to add a day no problem.

That's what I thought too but it actually says non transferrable in MDE now for the ticket and it's not a hard party ticket - just a 4 day park hopper and it won't let me transfer it.

I control her MDE, she doesn't have one of her own. And yet it won't let me transfer and now says non transferrable. I have a feeling I will have to call Disney soon so I can get it taken care of long before our FP booking date.

Did you change the ticket *date* on a date-based ticket through the app? Or did you simply add a day?

I'm asking because some of the posts don't sound like the OP's problem with changing to new dates on date-based tickets.

I changed the dates to a different range that was slightly more expensive. The length stayed the same.

I changed the date to one day earlier as we originally selected the day after our arrival as the start date. Once flights were booked we decided we wanted to go to the parks on arrival day I also had to add a day to the ticket to cover this change of date.

Thanks for reporting back! Did your new date range include at least a day from the original date range? Or was it an entirely different date range? Just trying to figure out if this is one of those Disney things that work for some, but not others (like changing room reservations on MDE) or if it's that as long as the new dates included part of your original dates, it can be done online (as opposed to entirely new dates).

OP here. I actually tried both. On one ticket, I wanted to shift the whole set of dates back by one day. One one ticket, I wanted to change to another month. MDE wouldn’t allow me to do either. This was on the website - I don’t have the current MDE app that lets you buy dated tickets, so I couldn’t try it there. In neither case did I want to add a date.

Fortunately UT was able to get the dates moved and I got them linked before my FPs proofed. But it was a hassle and, like I mentioned, cost more to change than I expected, but at least it’s done!

All tickets are non transferrable once they are used the first time. But you should be able to transfer it. Are you getting an error message when doing the process?

From the ticket sticky:

Who can use an individual ticket?
When a ticket is "new" and has never been used, it can be "transferred" (given, sold) by the person who originally bought the ticket to another guest. This is even true for tickets that are obtained as part of booking a WDW resort "package" (that includes combination of the room and tickets.) Those package tickets do not have to be used at all during that first resort package stay, but instead, can be saved for use or upgrade on a future trip (by anyone, not just the original purchaser.)

And a post just from Wednesday discusses success in transferring a ticket that's been linked to a profile.
