Beverly Lynn or any airport expert:

We booked our trip (Kids Go Free) through our local TA, got the tickets in June (trip is in Sept.) I finally got around to calling USAir this week because our flight down listed no seat assignments & said check-in required. (Can you tell I'm not a frequent flier? Why didn't I check this sooner!) The rep was very nice & tried to be accomodating but couldn't get us 2 window seats with 2 accompanying seats (8 yr old twins, 1st flight & they are really looking forward to window seats). She said to go to the USAir counter to check our bags & hopefully they could find us 2 plus 2 seats so at least one adult could sit beside one child. I know they hold a # of seats unassigned before the flight, in your opinion....what would be our odds of getting window seats for the kids before we board? How early do they release those seat assignments? Would we increase our chances if we get there say...2 hours before flight? I know ppl are sometimes willing to trade seats on the plane if they see a child alone or asking for a window (I've done it), but hate to ask as it is quite crowded with ppl in the aisles & trying to stow luggage. Any help you can give me on this would be greatly appreciated. I just want this 1st flight for kids to be really special. :)

Lots of factors here. Depends on how full the flight is. They will do their best to move people around, but there will be no guarantees. And a person with a seat assignment does NOT need to give up that seat to accomodate a family. I personally will give up a window seat for an aisle seat, and depending on the equipment and length of flight will give up my aisle seat for a window, but absolutely I won't give either up for a middle seat. The one time I was asked to do that, I graciously to the FA I'd be happy to move to first, and was :-)

Chances are they will be able to seat you 2 and 2, and because aisle seats are generally more coveted, you should be able to get the window seats. My opinion is that it's more importatnt to get two sets of sets together than worrying about window seats.
