My travel agent has tried to get us moved from the south garden wing to MK view rooms Dec. 9-15th. This will be our first trip and I really wish I had booked the MK view room way back when but you learn as you go. Anyway the travel agent is still calling back every so often to see if there is a cancellation. I also thought I'd ask when we check in if anything had opened up. Do you think there is any chance of getting that particular room view? I'm still very excited about our trip even if we can't get different rooms. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice for rooms in the south garden wing either a certain area you would try to get or avoid. Thanks again for all the advice etc. I have gotten it has really helped a 1st timer like myself.:grouphug:

If you're travel agent keeps trying everyday that there might be a cancellation, you may get lucky or you may not. As for trying when you check-in my personal feeling is if he or she tried everyday and nothing was available, then the chances of a Magic Kingdom view room being available at check-in would be very slim.

You're very near the deadline for package cancellations without penalty (45 days), and I believe the last day for room only reservations to be cancelled without penalty is 6 days prior to arrival. If anything is going to open up, it will most likely be around those cancellation dates. I've seen reported on the DIS that cancelled rooms go back into inventory in the morning. You may want to pass that along to your TA and ask that they be extra vigilant if possible the morning of October 26th. Good luck, I think you have a good chance of getting something ahead of time provided your TA is very pro-active and looks every morning.

On the AAA site the 9-12 is open as I was just looking at it to book it for our stay
That's a good point as well. Some travel agencies, like AAA, Expedia & Travelocity hold onto a block of rooms. I'm just not sure when they release any unsold rooms back to Disney.

If you can't get the change, don't worry. We stayed in a Garden View room in August and were quite happy. We had a view of Bay Lake across about 20 feet of grass and we were able to watch the water pagent from our patio every night we were in our room. And it was quite quiet over there too.

Don't sweat the small stuff, you'll still enjoy your stay, even in the wing.

Now for next year, I've reserved Atrium Club, hope it was the right decision, I'm still thinking about changing to a MK view instead.

On our first WDW trip, we checked into a garden wing room (that's what we booked), but when we checked in we said we'd love to change to an MK view room. We ended up having 2 nights in the garden wing room and then moved over to the tower with an MK view for the remainder of our trip. Keep this option in mind -- that if you cannot switch for the whole stay, you may be able to move over after a day or two.

I'll just say that we loved, loved, loved our MK-view room, that we watched fireworks nightly, and that the move saved our vacation. We weren't comfortable in the garden wing room and found it much more noisy than the tower (we are the lightest sleepers!). Many people love the garden wing, I'm just saying it didn't work for us and saying don't give up hope of switching even after you check in.

Have a great trip!

Last year I was desperate to book at MK view room in the Tower during President's Week. (HA HA fat chance!)

Kept checking online EVERY morning first thing and one day - there is was!!!

After a couple of days, those rooms were gone and nothing in the entire tower ever showed up again. (I know because for some odd reason, I kept checking even after I got the room - I know, too much time on my hands!;) )

Low and behold, when we go to check in they had upgraded us to a 12th floor MK view! None of these concierge rooms had been available for months.

So the long answer to your question is KEEP CHECKING! Things open up all the time. I totally agree with Tammi, too that package cancellation dates will give you a better chance at finding something.

Good Luck!

I think you made a great decision. The Atrium Club is amazing and so are the Cast Members who work up there, plus you have at least a 50/50 shot at getting a Magic Kingdom view room. If it helps whenever my parents and I have stayed up there we have never requested that view in advance and we have always ended up getting it. Even if you end up with the Bay Lake view, you can still go to the lounge anytime day or night to look at the Magic Kingdom.
