Changing Rooms at Check-In

Has anyone had any experience changing room types at check-in? We are staying at CBR in December and because we wanted free dining, we had to book a pirate themed room. What we didn't realize is that there are 2 double beds not queen beds in the room. I'm hoping that when we check-in that I can get a non-pirate room instead. Has anyone tried this?

I would try to book free dining in the room you want, check other moderate resorts. It's a toss up whether or not availability will be there in on check-in day. Pirate rooms usually cost more, so why pay extra? There are a lot more promotions coming out for Dec yet, so free dining may not be the best for you anyway.

When we booked, the only availability in our price range was a pirate room. I'll definitely keep an eye out to see if other promotions come out to see if we can get a better room/deal.

It is unlikely that you can do that and keep your free Dining promotion

If you were okay with rack rates and similar, sometimes you can switch. The likelihood of switching room category with Free Dining and keeping your promo is very low.

There is a reason only Pirate Rooms were showing for FD.

Disney offers promos such as free dining to fill rooms in categories, such as the CBR Pirate themed rooms, that are underbooked. If you wait until you arrive to ask for a different room it's possible a room is available for the length of your stay, but you will no longer have free dining if there are no FD rooms available within the new room category. However, you will be paying rack rate for the new room.

If you are booking a room because you want FD it would be best to check now to see if some other resort is still available with the bed configuration you want. Also, keep checking back to see if any other offer or room rate discount is offered, but make sure it fits all your requirements.
