Changing Room Categories at the Last Minute

I put this question in the BC / YC thread, but figured I might get a wider response here.

My DD is set to check in tomorrow. She was booked into a standard view room but today a garden view room popped up unexpectedly. :cool1: So, she switched room categories less than 24 hours before check-in.

We put a request on the reservation for a bank of rooms that has a really lovely garden view. But, we are wondering if she will have a harder time getting her request met with such short notice. Since most rooms are supposedly booked 5 or so days before check-in, we presume that most rooms at her resort for check-in tomorrow have already been assigned.

Has anyone switched room categories so close to check-in?

PS: I know that requests aren't guaranteed...just wondering if the late change makes it less likely.

Thanks :)

It will depend 100% what room was blocked for the person originally staying there.

Thanks for the reply...I was wondering if it would depend on that.

Say for example, that the person originally staying there had been assigned to a room that did not meet our requests. Upon seeing our "new" reservation and the request attached to it, is it conceivable that the room assignor would put us in a room that did meet our request and move someone who didn't have any requests on their reservation?

I'm pretty curious how they juggle it all...sounds like quite a job!

I don’t KNOW how they juggle it for sure.
But my gut is that most assignments are made about 5 days in advance. I don’t believe they would move someone slotted 5days ago so you can get your request

Thanks for the reply and "Hopefully" you're not right about that

All kidding aside, I appreciate the input :)

Probably not, because you are getting what you booked: a room in a specific category.

Even if the reservation hadn't been changed at the last minute, there is zero guarantee that your requests would be granted.

There is zero guarantee you will get any of your requests, particularly if you asked for very specific rooms. It's very possible the rooms you requested are already being occupied by guests who checked in before you. If you aren't happy with the rooms you are assigned, you can always go to the front desk to see if they can re-assign rooms to better meet your requests. The CMs will do their best to accommodate you.

Thanks to all who replied and yes I know that room requests are never guaranteed (as mentioned in my first post). I was just wondering if room requests made within the 5 day window would be considered by the room assigners or just disregarded since it was so late in the game.

Anyway, a quick update...my DD got a lovely room in the exact bank of rooms that she requested. Was it just happenstance or not...I guess we will never know. But, it sounds like perhaps they at least look at requests made in the eleventh hour and fulfill them if they can. Either that, or my DD just got very, very lucky. :)
