changing ressies when discounts come out

I just booked rooms for my family's January trip, but of course I'm hoping some discounts will come out! I have a few questions about changing the reservations to apply discounts. First, I have an AP and a Disney Visa card, so I might get different discount offers for each of those. Also in the past Disney has come out with both room-only discounts and free dining....and all these offers come out at different times. If better offers keep coming out, can I just keep calling and changing my reservation? I suppose the obvious answer is yes, but I think I would just feel bad about calling to try and apply different discounts 20 times! I'd love some feedback about that :thanks:

Second question: I've read on here that I might not be able to simply apply the discount, but might have to cancel my old reservation and make a new one with the discount code. If that's the case, can the deposits I've made be transferred over to the new ressie, or will the old deposit money have to be refunded and new money paid?

Lastly, if I do get an offer through Disney Visa or because of my annual pass, can I get that discount on all my family's rooms? I booked three rooms...I'm the one who booked them all, but of course I'm not staying in them all  Ideally I'd love free dining...if I get an offer for it, will I be able to apply it to all three rooms? Thanks!! :goodvibes

Okay, editing, one more question! I was reading through some of the FAQs and free dining info and noticed that free dining seems to always require the purchase of park tickets. Like I said, I (and DH) have an annual pass, so obviously we don't need tickets. If we want to get free dining, though, and go ahead and add tickets to our reservation, will those tickets be specific to us, or would I be able to give them to my family members?

yes.. you will cancel your ressie( IF RM ONLY). and book new reservation if FD w/ tix are being added. Pretty sure you need at least a 1 or 2 day ticket to get FD. Remember final payment on pkg is due min of 45 days from arrival. They will not call you for final. if you miss it..you are more than likely SOL !!!!

Deposit will be refunded to card etc and new deposit will be required. They will NOT transfer deposits from RO to PKG's.

Be sure to call immediately if/when FD comes available. Not all rooms/resorts qualify for FD IF offered at all.

Id keep my original until you get a new ressie. once you cancel its available for someone else to reserve immediately......

Be aware of any construction/refurbs going on as to not be disappointted.

I expect some discounts coming for Poly and GF and CR with refubs/builds going on. May be an opportunity for someone to snag a lifetime resort wish....

PS........ and YES i am bummed that CG is closed when we go. ..............

You can change your reservation as many times as you want if better offers come along after you've booked; however, for a package, once you get past the 45 day mark (which is when the balance is due), you would incur a $50 change fee. But keep in mind that having a reservation in place does not guarantee a discount can be applied as there has to be availability at the resort you have/want in order to take advantage of the discount. The only time a reservation has to be cancelled and re-booked is if you go from one type of reservation to another (i.e., a package to room only or vice versa). In this case, the one would have to be cancelled/refunded and the other one booked, requiring a new deposit, as money paid toward one cannot be applied to the other. If free dining comes out, it can be applied to all 3 rooms provided there are 3 rooms available at that particular resort under the free dining promo. We've never had APs so I can't say how many discounted rooms can be booked under one AP. HTH :).

Thanks for the info! I just edited my post to add one more question because I did notice, as you pointed out, that free dining usually requires ticket purchase. So can anyone help me out with this last question? Thanks!!

Unused tickets can be given to others. You would have to have them removed from your room card though.

I do this crazy thing when I book a vacation. I don't actually book anything until the price I'm prepared to pay is offered.

That's a great idea. We are going no matter what, and are willing and able to pay full rack rate, but of course we will be very happy if some discounts come out!

I understand that you can change/add discounts to a ressie but how about change the dates of a ressie to make it fall under free dining, if offered?

Yes, I've changed my dates more than once, in order to qualify for some new discount. it's not a problem to switch a room only ressie to another room only ressie or to switch a pkg to another pkg somewhere else or for different dates, as long as the discount you want is available for your new dates and resort. The problem might come in if you are trying to switch from a room only to a pkg or from a pkg to a room only. Those have different requirements and even different length confirmation numbers, so the CM would have to refund the money back to your cc (or however you paid) then would have to rebook.

For example: Last Monday I switched the bounceback room only deal I had at POFQ to the AP discount at AKL. My confirmation number remained the same and I just had to pay the difference. If I had added the DDP to that new ressie, the CM would have had to refund what I had paid for POFQ, rebook the trip for AKL, and would have given me a new confirmation number. In the past I have changed my dates, resort, and discount and still kept the same confirmation numbers (as long as I went room only to room only or pkg to pkg).
