Changing resorts?

So we have never in all of our trips stayed at a deluxe resort. We are currently booked at POFQ (our 4th time at this resort) but I have some wiggle room with money and was thinking of changing to Animal Kingdom lodge.
would you book a preferred room at Animal Kingdom or just standard.

My husband refuses to stay at AKL unless it's in a savannah view room.

I don't see the point of AKL if you aren't on the savanna. And the animals go to bed early. So if you don't have time to actually see the animals, I'd just stay at PO.

We’ve stayed in one standard view room and a couple of pool view rooms at AKL for the cost savings. I really enjoy the resort atmosphere and amenities and there are plenty of animal viewing areas throughout the resort that don’t require a Savannah view room.

Pool view is pretty and used to be my go to, but they can be very noisy if they are doing pool games during the day or showing a movie at night - during our last stay there, our pool view room was right near the speaker area and sleep was impossible until the movies ended.

The one time we booked a standard view room, our balcony overlooked an area near the Savannah entrance gates. There were some some giraffes and antelope that hung out near the edge of the Savannah sometimes, so we had occasional animal views off to one side, but otherwise views were fencing and empty Savannah type terrain. I think it was probably one of the better standard view rooms and I would happily stay in the same location again. I requested “not near the parking areas or bus stop” because I didn’t want to be placed in one of the rooms facing those areas.

I love the savannah view rooms. Great hanging out on the balcony before parks, during an afternoon break and even at night. We have animals outside our room at night too, just harder to see them. I honestly wouldn’t book here unless in a savannah view room. Transportation to the parks are all buses. If you’re not going to do a savannah view room I’d look into one of the magic kingdom or Epcot resorts where you’d have easy transportation to a park. Wilderness Lodge and the garden wing at the contemporary would have probably the cheapest options

In order to justify the inconvenience of being out at AKL I would want a savanah view. The limited food options without getting on a bus drove me a bit crazy

If you’re looking for a splurge from POFQ I would consider the Tower at Coronado. I often find those rooms to actually be in better shape- and more convenient as the elevators are quick and the halls are short- than Deluxe rooms. And even though technically a mod the tower is contained so indoor hallways and indoor walkways to a couple food options and bars.

I wouldn't spend the money to stay at AKL, unless it was for a Savannah room. I would stick with POFQ, and use the money for something else.

I think you will see animals very little. You have to be available when THEY want to be seen.
Spend your money in a different way.

My son’s favorite vacation was when we stayed at AKL in a savannah view room. It just was so special to a kid to see animals off your balcony (special for us as well!).

Worth every penny to us. It’s an amazingly beautiful resort.
I’d do it again in a heartbeat!

Definitely worth extra $$ to pay for the view… it’s a memory that we’ll have forever.

LOVE savanna view room but not always in budget. Booked Pool View thinking it would be nice but not too expensive and it was awful and waste of money. From then on it's savanna or save the money and book standard. I mean unless it is savanna I'm not going to use the balcony anyway, I'm going to be exploring the resort and using all the public viewing places ~ and there is more than just the Arusha Rock area to see animals. Save the money and use it to book one of the restaurants there.

We have stayed AKL before and just last week we were at POFQ. I will never stay anywhere else again. We LOVED POFQ. AKL is just too far away from everything and too big for us.

Put the extra money you saved plus what you would've spent at AKL towards your next trip!

We stayed at POFQ once and thoroughly enjoyed it!
