It looks like we'll be moving from Swan to AllStar to Dolphin next week. It's just the two of us with wheeled luggage and a rental car. Would you tote them yourselves or leave thrm with Disney transport, assuming they do this between S/D and 'official' WDW resorts?

Not sure about how the S/D and Disney work together on luggage.

We just returned from WDW and transferred from GF to BWV mid-trip. Disney did our luggage, which was 8 pieces including golf clubs, and it worked great. I don't think I will ever move luggage from one resort to another again.

Since there are only two of you and you have a car, I would suggest you do it yourself. This would also allow you to check in early and make sure you get a room location that you like.

we had a lot of luggage and did it ourselves (to be honest, it never occured to me to have Disney do it, I wish I had thought of it).
Since we had so much luggage it was quite a hassle, but if you have 2 cases and a rental car then I thnk I would just do it yourself, then you know where your cases are and won't have to wait around for them

I'm not sure if a WDW resort will deliver to the Swan/Dolphin but if you don't have much, I would do it yourself.

How does the process work? I'm planning our 2006 trip, and am considering starting at one of the All-Stars with a switch to AKL partway through. What are the pros and cons?

Many thanks!

In April I went from Carribean to Pop Century and they broke one of the pieces and never told me. When I realized it I did tell them and they gave me the money back for it. they will do it all you have to do is call them when you are checking out and tell them. Not sure about to Swan though you could ask first tho.

when we switched resorts we did it ourselves since we moved at 8:30am and were told by quite a few people that if we let them do it we may not have our luggage until late afternoon. We didn't want to risk it and it was just as easy to move it ourselves. We also got right in our room when we checked in so I'm glad we had our things with us.
I would suggest that you do it yourself. :D

2 of the past 3 trips we have transfered from the BWV to the Dolphin....there are six of us so at least 10 pieces...it works just the same as transfering the luggage to any official disney resort...it was there by 2pm once and 3pm the other time...but if it is only 2 of you....and only a few pieces...I'd do it myself...

What do you do when you are transferring from a value to a deluxe, at the values do you leave your stuff in your room and call the front desk and let them know to pick it up, or can you just take it to the lobby? The values don't technically have "bell services", right?

This summer I went from POP to BWV and left my luggage in the room at POP. Bell services came and took everything away - it was at BWV by 3:00 (I think) and there were no problems.

Bill, I'd take it myself if I were you.

They lost mine once, had absolutely no idea where it was in all of WDW. Not a good situation. It wasn't delivered until after 6:00pm, and then only because a manager at teh BW got involved and demanded some answers. We've always moved it ourselves since then. In your case it's not like you've got a ton of stuff, and the peace of mind will be worth the three minutes of rolling it.

the Pros are not having to lug it to your car yourself.

Cons: You do not have access to the luggage the day of transfer until 3pm or later. Plan accordingly.
Rarely they misplace it, not very often but it has happened to us. Usually always recovered but much later or the next day.
Day of the move you have to wait for bell services to come to your room, tag the luggage and remove it. After you get in your new room you have to contact bell services and have them deliver it. Lots of tipping going on on both ends. Unless you are moving "from" a value resort. They do not have bell service, but they do have luggage transfer. They will come to the room and get it, resorts that have bell service will require you to be in the room, tag the luggage and give you the claim tags.

If we don't have many pieces we just do it ourselves. That we are in control of the luggage if we get to the new resort and are lucky enough to get a room early, we have our luggage and can get settled.

We let Disney do it until one time we had a PS for dinner at a very nice restaurant and they misplaced our luggage. We had no clean clothes to change into after being at the park all day. Since then we just do it ourselves if we have the car with us.

two of you, with wheeled luggage..why would you wait for disney to deliver..do it yourself.

I cast my vote for transporting it yourself. While the percentages are good that it will all arrive at the correct location at the correct time, the one mix-up for that day may be YOURS!! We've done it a dozen or so times with only 2 mix-ups. One being minor(luggage arrived around 5 p.m.). The other time they lost our luggage between the All stars and Wilderness lodge. The bellman delivered it to the Campground instead. When they discovered the mistake(around 4 p.m.) they 'fixed' it by delivering our luggage back to the All Stars. This went on for 2 more rounds of misdirected deliveries until finally we got out luggage some time around 8p.m.. Really messed up dinner reservations!

Good Luck!!

Thanks for the input. You see, I hope to make the switch to AKL a surprise for the family, and it occurred to me that I could tell the kids that the resort staff needed to move us to a different room - and then go off to a park, surprising everyone by showing up at AKL later in the afternoon. Having the luggage transferred in the meantime would add to the "magic" of it all. :) I could still pull it off by putting the bags in the car during the day... you've given me quite a bit of food for thought. Thanks again!

If I were you, since it's just two of you, I'd take it myself in the car. You have to drive over anyway and check in, so it won't be much more time to drop the luggage off in the room.

If it were any more people or suitcases, or with children, I'd say let Disney do it!

OK, you guys are scaring me with misplaced luggage stories. I'll be transfering from POP to WL on Monday 1/10 and don't have a car....must have Disney transfer my luggage. Guess I'll just have to stuff my backpack with warm clothes for my WISHES cruise that night, just in case.

The chance of something going wrong is very slim, but it does happen. I would be prepared.

I learned a long time ago not to trust a hotel with that. I'd take it myself. It's much safer.

We're at POR and had our luggage transferred from POP. It went as we were told it would. However, when the unexpected happens and you'd really like to get into your luggage at will, it is inconvenient to have to wait until 3 pm. If you have the option to keep it where you have access to it just in case need be, I would. You never know what the day will bring. You may get caught in a downpour, a bird may drop a load on you, etc. You just never know when you might need a change of clothes!
