Changing Resorts and Dining Plan ???

Does anyone know how the dining plan works when you are changing resorts mid vacation? We're spending 5 nights with dining plan at BWI and 4 nights at POR with Free dining. Will we be using the same card or do we get a new card issued? I know Disney will take care of us, but it seems awful confusing especially given we have 2 different tickets and dining package for the trip.

when switching resorts mid-stay, it's like starting alllllll over again... it's a brand new package, has it's own confirmation number, totally new ticket requirements, need to check in at the new resort as though you are just arriving at the World, etc... it can be somewhat confusing unless you think of it as two distinctly different vacations...

and dont forget the credits from first stay expire midnight of the checkout.So make sure you use thenm up before using new ones from new reservation

You're not buying 4-day MYW tickets with one package and 5-day MYW tickets with the other, are you? There would be a cheaper way to do that, namely, buy 9-day (or however many days you need) MYW tickets with the first package and 1-day MYWs on the second package (which you would either just not use or upgrade before leaving, depending on when/if you plan to return). Apologize in advance if I'm telling you something you already know.

P.S. You should be able to arrange at the BWI front desk for transfer of your luggage from BWI to POR.

ok - no I did not know that. I learn something new every day. We're doing a 6 day MYW package the first leg of the trip at BWI with Dining and Hopping. The second part of our trip at POR, we're doing 1 day base with Free Dining for 4 nights. We've never done 2 separate packages before so I'm unsure about how the free dining works. I'm guessing you need the park entry to qualify for the free dining promotion right? or not??? Oh, I'm confused.

I think you're fine and I probably unnecessarily confused you. Sorry!

1. You must be on a package (or DVC, but that's not your situation) to get the DDP, whether it's free or not.

2. A package is (at least) a room reservation + a MYW admission ticket (of ANY LENGTH) for each member of your party.

So you want to stay at 2 different resorts AND you want to have the DDP during your whole stay AND (I'm guessing) you're checking in before the free dining offer begins but it begins in the middle of your stay. So you DO need 2 packages - so far, you're fine. What you do NOT want to do is purchase MULTI-day MYW passes with BOTH packages (example: a 9-day hopper is about $276 at the gate, but the combined cost of a 4-day hopper + a 5-day hopper would be about $530). But again, it sounds like you are fine. On the second package you only have the 1-day base tickets which is the cheapest and best way to make your reservation a "package" and qualify you for DDP. Now, if the MYW tickets on your first package are not long enough to get you into the parks on all the days of your vacation you want to go, then upgrade them to the length you need when you get there - the cost will be minimal compared to what it would cost you to upgrade the 1-day base tickets.
