Changing resort booked with code package after code expired?

Bear with me here. I'm having a crisis of faith, which will surely pass. The balance is almost due on our vacation package at the Polynesian, booked with the 7 for 5 package. Everyone is excited about the hotel, including me. But the nagging cheapskate at the back of my head is beginning to balk at the price. And we've been waiting on some freelance checks that still haven't come. Whatever. I don't think I really want to change, but just to INDULGE me-- thinking about what I could save if, at the same 7 for 5 deal, I was able to book at either AKL or WL standard view (close to $600), or at a moderate (about $950.)

Does anyone have experience with this? Would WDW Travel let me change the resort on my reservation while preserving the code/package I booked under-- even though the code expired?

The only experience I have had with changing was our trip in 2002. We had booked AS Sports with a code, room only, and after the code had expired I bumped us up to POFQ. The CM let us keep the discount with that code and didn't even require me to send in an addition to the deposit.

We made several different changes to our reservations before the 7 for 5 deal came out. Originally we booked the WL, then changed to BW. Our deposit transferred to the BW. Then when changed to BC and our deposit transferred to BC (we couldn't make up our minds). Then when the 7 for 5 deal came out we wanted to do it, so we called to book that at the BC...They didn't have any rooms available for the 7 for 5 deal so we changed to the poly....when we did this they wouldn't transfer our deposit because it was a package and not just room only..They refunded our earlier deposit and we gave them another deposit for the package......Anyway the only problem I can see if that you won't be able to transfer the money you've already paid in...they will refund it but it might make you loose rights to the code.......My advice would be to call a CM and explain what your wanting to do and see what they can do for you....Good Luck!

I called last week to make changes to our WL reservation for the last week in July. I was adding an extra adult to our room (my mom is gonna babysit the infant one day while we are at the parks). I also updated my room preference requests based on the valuable information I gained from one of the threads on this board.

To answer your question, they made the requested changes and it did not effect the discount rate I had booked the room under, even though that rate has expired. I know my changes were not as drastic as what you are considering, but that must be their policy.

As for your question about switching your original reservation, I'd probably advise against it. You don't want to spend one second of your magical vacation regretting that you didn't go with your heart.

I tried this in June - called to change my dates on a reservation I had made with a code. They changed my dates no problem - I got to keep my same code rate. But when I inquired about transferring to an entirely different resort using the code - they said NO NO NO. I had wanted to move from CS to WL. Of course, you may get a different response, but I ended up very happy where I was.
