Changing Reservation?

Hello experts,

I'm planning a trip for a family going to Disney and I've come across a question I don't know the answer to. They rented points from a member on the board and originally had reservations at the beach club in January, but due to an unexpected work situation, they had to reschedule to December. The member they rented from was very helpful and was able to transfer the points and they got a reservation, but all that was available was Saratoga Springs. I am thinking that since it is near the 45 day mark for cancellations, there might be some at other resorts that they could switch to...now to my question...can I call disney reservations since I've payed for the points already and have a reservation (I'm not looking to change dates, just resorts) to check for availability, or does the member they rented from have to call? I would probably call 20 times a day to check availabilites, but can't really ask that of the member! Thanks for any info!!!

Only the member can talk to DVC member services (which is where point based stays are handled, not the normal hotel reservations [CRO] phone number); as far as Disney is concerned you don't own anything and are a guest of that member. December is a VERY popular time of year so it is fairly unlikely something will be available; if there is a cancellation most likely someone already has a waitlist request in place that will snap it up.

Plus, different resorts may 'cost' a different number of points, so changing resorts might not be a one to one exchange.

Good luck!

For DVC reservations, it's 30 days not 45 days where cancellations have to be made without penalty. DVC has a waitlist system to switch reservations so you don't have to keep calling. As DVCGeek said, December is very popular and it's unlikely they will be able to switch, they are lucky that SSR was available.

The only thing that can be done is for the owner to call Member Services and ask to waitlist for another resort. However, that may not be possible since an owner is limited to two active waitlists. If he/she already has waitlists on file (for other reservations), he/she may not be able to accommodate that family.

FWIW, I agree that getting anything else for this December is a long shot. There are already waitlists for most nights. But, it doesn't hurt to try, if the owner is willing and able.

P.S. DVC inventory is completely separate from CRO inventory so it would do no good at all to call CRO or look online to see availability at the DVC resorts. Only MS can see DVC inventory.

They were extremely lucky to be able to change to anything and for the member to agree to a change. Flexibility and DVC do not go together.

As for the member agreeing to waitlist some other resort, if it's going to cost them more points, they probably won't agree to it. And it's a big pain in the butt for the member.

Tell your friends they got very lucky and that SSR is a great resort. And let it go at that.

Based on crowds, you would have been better off going in early Jan around the marathon.
