I am taking my 7 year old son to WDW for 3 weeks, from December 20-January 10. My 18 year old step daughter originally didn't want to go but changed her mind a month ago (she will come for 2 weeks and get home for the start of second semester in high school). I made all the reservations 180 days out for 2 persons, and consists of desire able times, including New Years. Do I need to call Disney to see if the reservation can be changed? On MDE, it would allow me to add a friend, but my step daughter is already listed as one of 6 family members and the site points this out and won't let me go any further. If worse came to worse, I would keep the character dining reservations and change them so that my son and step daughter are listed and I would skip them, if told at check in that there was no extra room. The other reservations, I would cancel.

Absolutely. Not only might they be expecting o seat you at two-person tables, but the restaurants also have maximum capacities. Do not wait until you check in at each restaurant!!! You could try making her single resevations at/close to your times, and if that works you can ask to be seated together.
