Changing Points Used for a Reservation

I am going to make an Aulani reservation within the 11 month window with Aulani points. But I may (long story) have a bunch of BWV banked points that I will need to use up. If the Aulani reservation still has availability at 7 months, can I swap out the points at 7 months? Or do I need to cancel and start from scratch?

They can't change the 11 month booking to anything that uses points other than Aulani points. But if the room/dates are available at 7 months you can book the room on a new reservation using your other points, then cancel the one you made at 11 months

I do this and start with ones at the beginning or end of my trip, drop the 11 month booking dates and then use waitlists to see if I can get individual nights to connect!!
