Changing Planes question

My daughter will be flying on one airline to Vegas and switching to another once she lands before continuing on home. Our preferred airline doesn't fly to her original destination so that's the reason for the flight change. Will she have to go and recheck in again when she lands in Vegas or can she just go up to the other airlines gate and check in? I'm assuming that the first airline can't check her all the way through since it's 2 seperate airlines? She'll just have carry on luggage so she won't have bags to worry about{would they transfer them from one airline to the other if she decided to bring a checked piece of luggage?} Any help is appreciated!

You'll need to list the airlines involved so we can determine if they have an interline agreement in regards to luggage - most do, some do not.

One can usually check in for both segments on partner airlines - usually

She'll fly US Airways from Reno to Vegas and then switch to Midwest Airlines from Vegas to Milwaukee where we'll pick her up. We have to pretty much do it this way because she has finals until 2:00 and need to be out of the dorms by 5:00 which doesn't leave alot of flights to pick from by the time she takes the shuttle into Reno.

I don't believe US and Midwest code share. But I believe both offer online check-in, so she can get both her boarding passes ahead of time. The only possible problem is if the US flight is late and she misses the Midwest flight, they will consider her a no-show.
