I Googled this but could not find the answer. Just signed up for a Netflix plan. The website would only allow me to "sign up for a free month" and as part of that free month, all I can get is 1 DVD at a time. I want to get 4 DVDs at a time for this first month so we can take the DVDs on a vacation. Of course I'm willing to pay for this, but I don't see any way to make this happen during this first free month. I've tried signing up with a different email address, but I could not get options for more than 1 DVD + streaming. I tried to change the free plan to a 4 DVD plan, but it won't put that plan into place until next month, and I need these DVDs for a trip next week.

Any ideas how to get a 4 DVD plan (an I guess probably cancel the free 1-DVD per month introductory plan)?

My suggestion is to call them and sign up for the 4 DVD a month plan. You won't be able to do it online but customer service may be able to do it for you.

You can't change a plan mid-month. Anytime you want to change, it will make the change for you at the next billing period.

I agree that you should call if you have a question that isn't in the FAQ on their site.

so how do they charge, after the free trial, is it 9.99 for a month for how many dads? they come in the mail? how do you return?

Why not go to the Netflix website and read their policies for yourself? They are clearly explained.

I don't think they will send you any dads! The shipping would be too expensive.

If you want four at a time, it will not be $9.99. That's for one at a time OR for online access. They have your credit card on file and charge you at the beginning of a billing period for whichever plan you are on.

Thanks for all the advice. We generally use Redbox, but are looking to get a stock of 4 DVDs (in addition to DVDs we've purchased) to take on a trip to a remote area where we won't have access to internet or Redbox.

I'll give them a call and see if they can change the plan. And just for reference for the person who was asking about pricing, the 4-DVDs at a time + streaming is not cheap: $29/month. But, for us, it's still cheaper than buying a DVD box set that we will watch once and never watch again.

I did this recently and it was not easy, but if you call customer service they can do it for you. FYI if you want to get 4 DVD's a month and no streaming you can, but you have to specifically ask. They are pushing the streaming but the selection didn't interest me.

I changed my plan in the middle and was told they can prorate the month. Haven't seen the credit card bill yet since I only did it last week so can't verify.

How long are you going on vacation? 7 days of rental for 4 DVD's at Redbox would still be less than the $29 you are looking at. Taxes not included but not included in your $29 either.

Okay, I was able to change the plan. Had to call customer service, and they basically cancelled my plan, signed me up again, and then they had to change to plan to 4 DVDs at a time. Only planning to keep the 4-DVD plan for a month, then we'll probably go to either all streaming or 1 DVD at a time. Redbox is generally much easier for us to use, but the problem is this time we wanted to get a bunch of TV series DVDs, which are harder to find in Redboxes in our area.

This is not completely accurate. Netflix will let you increase your plan at any time during the month. They will prorate the increase for you for the rest of the month, charge your credit card and send out your additional DVD's.
If you decrease your plan, it will not change until your next billing period.

Glad the OP and Netflix customer service got it figured out.

$9.99 a month is 1 DVD OR streaming only, we have 1 DVD plus streaming and we pay $14.99 a month. They don't have a day limit, you can keep the same DVD for 2 months and it would be $9.99 per month. If you watch the movie the same night you get it in the mail and return it the next day you can have a new movie every 1-2 days. They come in the mail, you return them via mail in the prepaid envelope. To stream you must have a compatible device. visit netflix.com for all this information.

Have you checked your local library?

I was going to suggest this too, this is what we do when we want movies for extended periods of time. We also borrow from friends. :)
