I know that the official disney site is offering a special (or was a few weeks ago). I got an email about it. My question is "If I go ahead and book now for December 2008, and they offer that deal again, can I switch my reservation to the discounted price and save some money or upgrade to a better resort???" I might want to upgrade if the savings amount is good enough.

Or will they say "Sorry, you have already booked! Even though your travel dates are within the ones for the special, you can't get it!"

I've never dealt with this, so I don't know how it works!

They will change, no problem! I started at the CR, changed to CBR because hubby like the look of it in a plan book, then when codes came out, switched to CSR to save $400! Same ressie number for all, just different hotels and different total cost!

It is my understanding that if you book your trip and a discount comes out that would apply to your already booked room/package, you should be able to apply the discount. In Dec. '05, I was able to apply a discount code to our 2 GV Poly rooms after I had already booked the rooms - just got lucky that they were part of the discount and saved about $300. Keep in mind, sometimes the codes that are released are only applicable for certain rooms - so it is possible that the room you already booked is not part of the discount code. If that is the case, you could always cancel the original ressie and re-book using the code for a room/package that falls within the discount code. In that case, I would just pay really close attention to their deposit/refund policies so that you don't end up losing your deposit just to "save" on another room - might not be worth it?! I am not very familiar with the current deposit/refund policies - maybe someone else will reply with some more comprehensive info!

We had originally booked POFQ with a AAA discount for our upcoming vacation then got a Disney Visa discount code. When we called our AAA agent she said that we could apply both discounts, but we would have to change to another moderate. We chose CSR (which is actually where I wanted to stay in the first place). We recently added 2 days to our trip and both discounts were applied to these as well.

So I might have to change resorts????? Maybe I will book a value, then switch if a deal comes out. (Upgrade)

Not 100% sure about this, but I think that by the time we called our AAA agent with the code, all the POFQ code-applicable rooms were booked full. I think that you could apply the code to any resort but that there are a finite number of rooms at each resort set aside for the code. Since our AAA agent gave us a choice of all the other mods, I just assumed that because POFQ is the smallest, that they had the fewest number of code-applicable rooms and they were all booked. To apply the code, our AAA agent did say that she had to cancel our original reservations and book new ones - the code couldn't be applied to our original POFQ reservations thus I assumed that there were no code rooms left. However, I will say that the AAA agent we have been working with has seemed somewhat clueless - we are often telling her what's what, so maybe this is all wrong!!!

90% of the time you can just call and add the code, as long as, you meet all the other requirements of the offer, and they still have rooms available under the offer.
Sometimes an offer will be say for standard rooms only, so if you have a water view for instance you would have to change to the standard view etc. sometimes all rooms at the resort you are booked at for the code price are filled and you would have to change resorts to one with availability to take advantage of the offer. In rare instances it could be for new bookings only in which case again you just cancel and rebook assuming you have verified availability for what you want.
