Changing Flights on Delta and fees ?

What if I decide to change our flight on Delta and the fare for the new flight is 100.00 cheaper ? Do they refund 100.00 back to us or not ?

It's probably going to cost you more than $100 to make any changes with a Delta.

Go to their web site and look for change fees. If they are like other legacy airlines it will cost about $200 per person to make the change. But, better check for yourself.

I tried to change flights last weekend on Delta due to the snowstorm here. It was $200/ticket. Once they issued a "Weather Advisory" for my location and date, they waived the change fee.
But if you are looking to change for other reasons it will be $200/ticket

You should call Delta. Have the details of the flight you want to change to up on your computer, and also have your reservation #.

They will tell you how they will handle the change, and how they will handle the charges. Tell them you'd like to get all the info first, before you authorize the change.

The last time I did this with Delta, they credited the difference in fare, but then charged me a $200 change fee. You need to talk with them first, but I would guess that they'd credit the $100 fare difference, but then charge you $200 to do it. They might let you use the $100 credit towards the change fee, but you'd have to pay the additional $100. ALSO… when I attempted to make a change, they said something about the credit only being available for airfare for the same person named on the ticket you are refunding, and it couldn't be applied to things like baggage fees, or be applied to another person, and the credit needed to be used within a year.

I'm sorry, and I don't mean to be snarky, but why would you pay $200 to save $100? Or is the cheaper flight at a better time for you, so you're willing to (hypothetically) pay $100 for it?

I'm not sure if they credit you the difference in airfare. I do know if you make a switch and it's to a more expensive fare, then you get charged the $200 change fee + the INCREASE in fare. You'd think the opposite would work, too, but I just had a horrible experience with Delta and them not applying the weather waiver correctly, so I'm not willing to give to think they'd operate in a logical manner for anything anymore. The only way to know is by calling.

You won't get any money back after paying a $200 pp change fee for a $100 pp lower fare. You will owe $200, but it might be worth it to arrive a day earlier.

I'm not following your math. If the new ticket is $100 less than the original ticket, then the new ticket costs $558 and not $518.

If the fare is $100 less pp and the change fee is $200 pp - the net amount owed will be $100 pp, or $200 for 2 people.

You may not be calculating correctly. Example:

Original ticket $300
Saving -$100
New ticket $200
Cost to change ticket $200
Net cost of new ticket per person $400
$300 - $100 = $200 + $200 = $400

Some airlines will subtract the price difference if less from the change fee. Some do not. It's been awhile since I've had a change on USAirways but they don't do that, you pay the fee and lose any lower fare difference.
