We are spending 4 nights at the Grand Californian in mid-August, and then transferring to the Disneyland Hotel for 3 nights. A few questions:
1) Will Disney transfer our bags for us?
2) If so, how does this work?
3) Finally - any other advice?

Thanks!!

You're gonna love it. Not sure if they transfer luggage, I think they might. If not, just take it to bell services and they'll hold it till your DLH room is ready. You might consider DLH first then GC only b/c GC is a shorter walk and you might be more tired for that part of your stay. But the monorail is handy near DLH so it will likely work out just fine.
We've done a split stay before and were very happy we did. You can use both pools when staying at the GC apparently.

There have been a few posts about successful baggage transfers, so it seems this service is available.

I suggest checking in to the second hotel very early in the morning. No need to wake up the whole family, just one person needs to walk over.

I had heard pool hopping was not allowed as general policy.
The only exception being if the pool at guests hotel is closed, then using one of the other DLR pools is okay.

When did this policy change?

As for "any other advise".....

On our first stay at the GCH, our room was in one of the far, far, far corners from the lobby. Our room overlooked the courtyard where the Monorail glides through. The walk to the room once we entered the hotel was brutal after a long day in the parks.
Since then we have learned to request a room NEAR the elevators. I had thought a room near the elevators would experience foot traffic noise, but it has never been an issue. The shorter walk is really appreciated at the end of the day!

Enjoy your week at DLR

We have done a transfer once before. The DLH bell services moved our luggage to the GC. It was easy, just brought down our luggage, went to the parks, and then in the afternoon when we went to check into our new room all our luggage was already at the hotel.

I think (think) the way it works is you can't pool hop, but if you're staying at DLH (but not PPH), you can reserve a cabana at GCH and get access to the GCH pools that way.
