HI, I have a quick question. I was wondering if I book a Disney vacation say, now for September, but I know we are not going to be able to travel until Feb is their a penalty for changing dates? I want to start paying for the vacation but they don't let you book for the next year until September. We are low to middle income and need a long time to pay for such a large vacation. I don't have the will power not to spend money when I see it just sitting in my savings account:guilty:

There is no penalty for changing the reservation as long as you change it out side the 45 day window. Basically you would need to change it before that 45 the day before the reservation.

I would suggest one of a few other options.

1) Open a vacation club account at your bank and deposit $$ when you can. That way if an emergency comes up or you need access to the $$ it is available.

2) Disney has a new program that allows you to deposit $$ towards your vacation and they will act as a bank or holder for you. I forget the name of the program, but it should be easy to find online. From what i remember, they will not pay interest on the funds deposited, but will refund it all if requested. Again, basically doing what a bank would do (without the tiny interest the bank may give you). Only when it is there, you are less likely to spend it elsewhere.

3) As others on here have done, get the target red card and buy git cards as you can afford it. Having the card allows you to get 5% off the gift card, essentially saving 5% off your vacation.

Just some suggestions that seem better than having to continually move a reservation around. Especially if you forget or get busy and miss that 45 day window.

Good luck saving!
