changing dates?

I just found out that I will have to post-pone our trip .DH has some certification tests to take in January and it doesn't seem like the smartest idea to go on vacation at that time.

We are most likely going to delay the trip until March....can I just change the dates or will they make me cancel the trip, get a refund on our deposit and then rebook? Will I be penalized for making changes? We're more than 45 days out

We do have the trip insurance and I booked the trip in August...

They should let you just change it. Before our last trip which had free dining, I changed resorts a couple of times, added a day, and then added a person, all on different calls. I even kept my free dining codes.
