In the past, I have been able to book a trip online, and if the dates weren't quite right, I could mess with them a little to get the desired discount and then I could just call in to change the dates to what I want. For example, if I wanted March 2-9 but nothing shows as available with discounts except for March 1-10, I would book March 1-10 and then just call in to change the dates. (So basically all nights still in that range, just fewer nights.
This trip, I did that and called in to change the check to a few days earlier. I was told Guest Svcs would handle it and send me a confirmation within 24 hours. An hour later, I got a new confirmation but for the same dates.
Has something changed in their policy regarding changes?
