Changing cruises…do I still get opening day prices?

Hello!

I booked the Fantasy, 7-night EC on opening day using a placeholder booking. There is some talk in my FB group that this may change into a SWDAS cruise which I have absolutely no interest in. If I switched to a different cruise, would I lose the advantage I had by booking on opening day, or do I get the price I would have gotten that day?

This is the February 20, 2021 Fantasy cruise…anyone have an inkling of whether they will change this to a SWDAS cruise??

Based on the past few years, I would count on EVERY Fantasy cruise between mid to late January and at least sometime in March to become Star Wars.

You are only locked into the opening day rates on the cruise you are booked on (if you were to change stateroom categories you would get the new category opening day rates). If you change cruises, you would become locked into the rates on the day you book the new cruise, not its opening day rates.

Although you have no interest in SW, I would not change cruises because of that. SW is only on one day, and you can stand clear of the specific activities if you so desire. There will be some characters on top deck during that sea day, and some movies in the BV theatre will be SW, but the rest of the cruise will be the same as usual.

I would count on it, given how hot the franchise is. They tend to announce end of January. I'm on the Feb 22 2020 cruise and was counting on it turning into a SWDAS cruise and it did. That said the above poster is right - it's only one day and while most of the activities are star wars, I'd bet the spa and adult areas (which are not) are less crowded and it's a good night for Palo/Remy if you want to avoid the star wars scene entirely and there are TWO sets of fireworks (pirates and star wars) so to me it's a win even if you're not into star wars. If you don't have some weird aversion it makes for great people watching though!

That's what I was afraid of. Thanks!

It's funny because I don't hate Star Wars at all. I've done the SW dessert party a couple times and my DD and I rope dropped DHS on opening day of ROTR (which was awesome!). I just really don't want a themed cruise. I know that seems weird. I'll just wait and see and if it comes to that I'll explore other options. Thanks everyone!

I hear you. I am expecting my Feb 2021 cruise on the Magic to change to a Marvel Day At Sea cruise and will deal with it. I’m focusing on the DAY part - just as Star Wars it is a DAY and not a “themed cruise” like Halloween on the High Seas or Merrytime where stuff goes for the length of cruise. The SW or Marvel are from all reports only themed on that designated day.

it's not a "themed cruise" it's just one themed day. The rest of the cruise is totally normal. If you want to avoid star wars just do palo or remy that day to avoid the themed menu, stick with adult areas - but a second set of fireworks is a bonus IMO (they do both star wars AND pirates.)

Like the PPs have stated, it's only one day and at that, it's pretty much done by late afternoon. I was one of the very few still in my costume for dinner at Animators Palate. A SW menu was it. None of the servers were in SW attire, no characters in the MDR and the only activity was that shark looking for something to eat. Don't base a 7-night cruise on 8 hours of SW.

Does this mean I can change to a different stateroom category and get opening day prices? What if I am going from 1 stateroom to 2? I’m in a family veranda for my next cruise but thought of changing to 2 adjoining OV rooms. The rates have gone up so much that it doesn’t make financial sense to change .

If you change to a different cabin on the same cruise, you should get the price as of the day of your initial booking for that cabin. However, I am fairly sure that applies to only 1 cabin (if you booked only 1 originally), so the second cabin would be at the price as of the new booking.

Thank you! I suspected as much

Exactly this. The first is locked in. The new one would be at prevailing rates.

No, you'd have to pay the current rates (most likely higher rates).

Is the itinerary Aruba-Bonaire-Curaçao?
Those are considered to be some the best islands in the Caribbean...

But wait, are the passengers locked in or the staterooms? I thought it was the passengers that got the original booking rate, not the stateroom. So if I have 4 in 2 rooms, and want to move to 2 room, I'd have to rebook two of the people? Likewise, moving 4 from 1 room into 2 rooms should give the original booking rate, as the same people are moving rooms.

Anyone have confirmation on which it is?

No. You didn't book two staterooms in your case. Even if you moved one or two from the original room, you're still booking a new room.
