Changing/Canceling SW flight advise needed

We have a good SW airfare booked ($86 o/w) but the airport we are flying out of (Jackson Ms) is a five hour drive from here. I love our flight times, we'll be there an hour & 10 minutes!
But of course we would love to fly out of Little Rock to avoid the 5 hr drive if fares would EVER decrease (right now they are $194 o/w!)

Anyway, I am watching fares/dings but my question is this: if I find something from LIT to MCO, how do I change or do I cancel? I clicked travel center to look around on the SW site, and there is two links, one is CANCEL ressie, one is CHANGE ressie..which would I need to do to instantly have the funds available to rebook a different flight?

I am booked now on an internet fare.

TIA & sorry if this question has been asked a gazillion times!

You would use the change flights. We did this and it allows you to change your flight if the flight you want is available , its very easy. Also if the flight isnt available at least you can keep the ressie you already have.

"Changing" the flight only works if a regular fare sale shows up. If a DING! shows up, then you would have to 'cancel' and rebook.

If you get a good "Ding" fare, considering that you have Ding downloaded, then you would have to cancel your first reservation and book a new one. The best way to do this is to first book the Ding fare, go all the way through until you have to apply payment. Then open a new window and go into travel center and go into cancel reservation. Once you cancel that reservation, your ticketless funds can be used immediately on the new reservation.
The new reservation will prompt you to apply ticketless funds. You will need the reservation number of the old reservation and name of credit card holder.
It's a lot easier than it sounds. :rotfl:

Thanks for the replies..however I am still confused. Is there an exact way to do it?

Here is my exact situation:

Sept 29th, $86 o/w from Jackson to Orlando at 12:25pm. for 4 people

I think it was an internet one way rate...but I booked round trip to return to Jackson on October 6th.

I just would like to cancel that or change it if a similar rate comes along for Little Rock to Orlando for the same dates. (it is Friday to Friday).

If it happens, I know I have to act fast before flights sell out so that is why I am needing to know exactly how to go about changing it...what links to click, etc on the SW site.

Thanks again!

Thanks! I think you just answered my question while I was typing! Can you do it like that even if its not a ding fare? whatif it is an internet special?

If it is an internet special, then you just need to go into the "change" feature and change the flight. It will then apply any excess funds you have into an account for future use. (Good for a year from original booking date).

Is there a fee to all of this changing and canceling going on? I've never been clear about it and this is our 1st time flying SW. Thanks.

So you can change instead of cancel, even if if it is a totally different flight at a different airport?

Thanks!

If it is a weekly or internet special available fare on the regular booking engine, then yes, you can just "change" the flight.

If it is a Ding! fare, then you must "cancel" the flights and rebook on the Ding! booking engine.

There are no fees associated with changing or cancelling SW flights. You are credited any difference in fare if it is lower, you have to pay any difference in fare if it is higher.

Personally, I would pay $194 over $86 any day to avoid a 5 hour drive each way on top of an hour long flight.

Over $1600 RT versus $765 RT....we don't mind the five hour drive to save that much $800! Of course if a better rate comes out for our closest airport, I would change it.

Thanks for all the valuable info.. you guys are the best. :sunny:

Thanks for the info. I was told by a SWA agent that in order to make the funds immediately available to purchase a DING, I should call and cancel the old ressie by phone, then quick buy the DING flight. :confused3
I like your advice better! :thumbsup2

I've done the changing on the internet for a DING far many times. If you follow the directions given and open two windows my credit is always there immediately.

Hey again ~ not to throw a wrench into everything, but how about this....what if the new rate is MORE?

I am the OP, so in my case, if a similar or even alittle higher rate came along for a closer airport, I would take it. If I owed more money, could I still do it the same...cancel then apply funds & pay more??

Thanks ~ :yay:
