Hi, I'm not sure if this is the correct forum to post this. I booked a package but now I want to change it to a room only. Is this difficult to do? I'm not going until November so there are no fast passes involved. I want to bump down the number of days I wisit the parks. Also if I book room only, then buy the tickets, I will have to add them to my MDE. Will that make it a package? I also like to look at availability of the fast passes to get an idea as to what will be available when my date arrives. Sort of practice.

You can buy tickets without making it a package but you would have to buy the tickets as a separate transaction. We have a room only reservation and I bought tickets from Undercover Tourist. My sister has a room only and bought tickets from Disney without making it a package by going through the links to purchase tickets.

You will have to cancel your package in order to switch to a room only reservation. You would get a refund of the $200 deposit you made for the package and then you would have to pay a new deposit for the room only, which is equivalent to the cost of one night. There would have to be availability for the new dates in order for you to make the new reservation.

Nope.

What happens if there is no availability? You just can’t convert since I’m not changing the dates? I hate to spend money on tickets I might not use. Now they want to go th universal at least one day. I just don’t know what to do at this point.

If it’s simply an issue about how many days for the tickets currently on your package, you can adjust that to be whatever you desire — fewer ticket days or more ticket days, it does not have to “match” the days/nights for the resort. You can call to do this, and since you are well ahead of the vacation dates, there is no fee or penalty.

If you have other reasons for wanting a room-only, then I suggest calling. Don’t cancel the current reservation until you know for certain the dates can be booked as room-only.

Enjoy your vacation!

If there is no availability you are out of luck. You can’t convert, they are separate inventories

Thank you all! I called last night and she said she was going to do it but then I decided to make sure that’s what my son wanted to do. The only other reason is that we check in on the 1st of November and we have MNSSHP tickets for the 31st of October. I was told I would be able to book FPS for my trip at 60 days but the party at 30 days out. Not too worried about it though I’ve got EMM tickets too. It’s just that I want to maximize my investment by getting 3 FPS for the party day. If I can I can if not it’s ok.

You can't book FP with party tickets.

There has to be availability to book.

No they can’t convert it. Not going the other way, either.

If you don’t have a free dining package requiring the number of days you currently have, just drop down to the number of days you want/need.

Call and ask if it's possible to remove the tickets and convert it to what's called a basic package. This is how I have booked bounce backs in the past. I book as a "basic package" without tickets or dining plan as usually booking 11 months out is too far in the future for me to even guess at how many meals my family might eat/know if the dining plan would make sense. Then I can easily call at 4-5 months out and add the dining plan. We're passholders, but a year ago I booked a basic package for a family member (not a passholder) and then purchased and added tickets separately (he could get a discount as a FL resident).

The room only system is separate from the packages - so they can’t just convert one to the other - they have to cancel and sub,it for a refund, and then u have to book again

I know it's separate. It's possible to have a basic package that is only a room. I am not certain, though, if a standard package (room + tickets) can be converted into a basic package. If the OP had originally booked as a basic package, they could easily remove the tickets and keep just the room without needing to cancel and rebook. I don't know if converting one type of package to another is possible; I've never tried.

I'm a little confused. It seems you have a room and ticket package now and, while you are sure of your travel dates, you just aren't sure how many WDW theme park ticket days you need? If that's the case, there is zero reason to convert this to a room only and outright purchase separate tickets. Simply call and modify the number of ticket days you want on your package. For example, if it's 6 days now, but you only want 4 or 5, just call and modify the tickets on the package. You can make this change, without penalty, until 30 days before check-in (if you do it within 30 days, they'll charge you $50). You can even keep changing it up until 30 days without penalty. Just because you booked the package with a certain number of days on the ticket doesn't mean you can't modify the tickets.
