Changes to the Wonder during dry dock?

The item was removed becuase due to the normal swaying and rolling/ pitching of the Magic, it was starting to move itself. There was structural concerns for the individual pieces of the art itself.

Therefore for safety it was removed from the Magic. I do not know if the same issue is present on the Wonder.

I would expect....

Ducktail +/- water feature slide
Atrium decor update and removal of starboard staircase
Vista Spa --> Senses
Route 66 --> After Hours (with Diversions becoming O'Gills)
Beach Blanket Buffet --> Cabanas
Parrot Cay --> Carioca's or hopefully a new concept (Panchito's??)
Animator's Palate show update similar to Magic
Marvel or Star Wars addition to Oceaneer Club
Mickey's Pool/Slide --> AquaLab with Twist'n'Spout slide
Outlook Cafe --> Concierge lounge
Updates to quick service food on pool deck
Edge moves to old arcade
BBB
?Flounders becomes IASW nursery

I wonder what they did with it?

Supposedly when it was removed it was going to got to Dales Tampa showroom but it was broken during its removal. That rumor and I honestly don't know of its true or not.

If they don't put a slide in like the AquaDunk there's a chance she won't need a ducktail. When they added the AquaDunk to the Magic her center of gravity changed so the tail was needed to counter the change.

I think one thing we can be sure of is that they won't do anything to prevent the Wonder from being able to use the Panama Canal. We now know they'll be back to Alaska in 2017 (and so will I - Yay!), so they're still going to want to go through the canal to get to the Pacific and back.

Ugh, I hope they do not add an Aquadunk. It really detracts from the classic beauty of the ship. The Wonder reminds me of the Queen Mary. That is why we chose to sail on it and not sail on the other Disney ships.

Since half it's time is spent in Alaska, would the Aquadunk be a necessary add? Would people use it? How many go into the pools on Alaskan cruises?

Kids use the pools quite a bit. Adults not so much. The sea days at the beginning and end of the cruise are much further south, so there's heavier usage on those days. But I do think something like that would spend a lot of time with low or no usage.

Well, not "half it's time". Late May to September = about 4 months. And the weather in Alaska in the summer can get pretty warm on occasion.

Not advocating for AquaDunk, just saying....

Ugh, I don't really want it to change much at all! It all makes me so sad. If I had to choose, I would say definitely update the kid spaces, Animator's Palate, the spa, and the Mickey pool area. The rest of it is already perfect.

100% agree with those changes. Like you said, the rest is perfect already:thumbsup2

If the Panama Canal expansion opens on time (Current ETA June 2016) and is functional, then all 4 Disney cruise ships will be able to travel through.

I also suppose they will take out Studio Sea and replace it with D Lounge (which is a much better space on the Magic, IMHO)...

One thought regarding fitting through the Panama Canal: I am wondering if having a ship that can go through the original locks might not still be of advantage as a selling point for future PC cruises. Yes, at first the new locks will have an appeal,Mobutu in a few years time, I think the old locks will have more charm (the mules, the fact that it is such a tight fit, the historic aspect) that I think they will be far more appealing to cruisers.

I really agree with this. Tonight I hung out with friends I met on last year's WBPC cruise and we were chatting about going through the locks and what it will be like going through the new ones. From a completely utilitarian perspective it sounds great, but basically every single thing that was fun about going through the old locks will be gone. That's a real bummer!

I agree with PP -- a great disappointment to see the aquaduck added to the Magic -- her classic beauty was destroyed. She had a unique look and charm - unlike so many of the all white ships sailing that have no character. She got rave reviews when she launched and they compared her to the bygone days of classy ships like the Titanic and White Star ships so beautifully designed. Adding a big metal slide just killed her one of a kind outline :sad1:

I actually like the Aquadunk. I can live with it, it's the ducktail that detracts from the look...

just got off the Magic and we were on the Wonder at the same time last year, just a few comments:

- we didn't use aquadunk - we completely forgot it was on there and we had no interest in it but perhaps because our kids were in the Mickey pool most of the time, it was out of our view and we really enjoyed aqualab and the spouty slide
- the new afterhours on the Magic is so much nicer than Route 66 - I think Route 66 is gawdy, loved Keys and O'Gills is sharp
- cabanas over blankets was soooo much better, we actually used cabanas a lot vs not really taking full advantage of blankets
- kids clubs hands down way better on the Magic, besides all of the upgrades, to the layout and complete transformation - just the ability to walk between lab and club was huge for adding to enjoyment level for my kids
- the animation show where you draw your figure on the 7 night was awesome! (in AP)

everything else I wouldnt care if it changed like Cariocas looked similar to Parrot Cay, obviously the colors were different but the pillars and structure and layout was the same
BBB - we did it and thought it was overpriced

Cove Cafe - I am not sure what you guys mean, I remember the Cove Cafe on the Wonder, I never went in it but remember being on the outside of it... on the magic this past week we went into Cove Cafe, seemed to be there and a nice play to be, what changed? I am not completely knowledgeable on this topic so just curious about what changed with Cove Cafe on the Magic
